David Earl Janca of Poteet, Texas, beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 28th, 2012, at the age of 67. He was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, graduating from St John's seminary in 1962 in San Antonio. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a Captain in the United States Army. He worked for the US Postal Service, retiring after 20 years as a mail carrier in Pleasanton, Texas. Recently, he enjoyed volunteering as a docent at the missions in San Antonio, always greeting tourists with his warm smile. David was a member of the VFW in Poteet and an active volunteer and member at St. Matthew Parish in Jourdanton. He served the Lord to his fullest, praying and thanking God for each and every meal. He took pride in his country, his Dallas Cowboys, and his family. One of his greatest accomplishments is becoming a stepfather to his four kids, whom he adopted and treated as his own. He is survived by his children, Dean Sala of San Jose, CA, Denise Witt, of Roseville, CA, Robert Janca, of Oakland, CA, and Robin DeLeon of Houston, Texas, six grandchildren, his nephews, Don Simpson and Jerome Janca, and his niece, Jenea Janca, of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Ethel Janca, brother, Jerome G. Janca, and sister, Bette J. Butler. Throughout his life, David was a loyal, thoughtful, and God-fearing man who always had a smile on his face. He touched the lives of many people in the community with his generosity, kindness, and sense of humor. He truly enjoyed making people laugh and feel good about themselves, and he radiated joy to those around him. The family warmly invites you to honor the life of David Earl Janca at a Memorial Service and Rosary at 5-9 p.m. Rosary at 6 p.m., Memorial to follow on Thursday, August 9, at Mission Park Burial Park South, 1700 S.E. Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas, and a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10, at Holy Cross Cemetery 17501 Nacogdoches, San Antonio, Texas. A Special Mass will also be held in his memory at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, at St. Matthew Parish, 1608 Campbell Avenue, Jourdanton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
