Deborah Ann Hurts was born April 20, 1960 in Pineville, LA and passed away Feb 10, 2023 in San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents Edmond Hurts & Velma Anderson, sister Sally Sims and brother Edmond Hurts Jr. She is survived by sisters Clara Walker, Johnnie Mae Lynch, Rosalyn Ricard; brothers Isaah Hurts, Isaiah Hurts, Lewis Hurts, and Donald Ray Lynch. Deborah loved, was proud of, and bragged about her two children and eight grandchildren. She cherished daughter Patricia Lynn Hurts (35) & grandchildren Javon (15), Jada (12), Jaylen (5mo). She adored daughter Amanda Renee (33), son-in-law Kaleob Williams and their children Audrey Brooke Ann (9), Gabriella April Rose (7), twins Wyatt Kaleob Louis & Charlotte Lynn Julie (5), Ralph Paul David (4). Deborah graduated from Louisiana School for the Deaf and later settled in San Antonio after training at SCHI. She was born deaf and slowly lost her vision from Usher Syndrome. Her positive attitude, faith in God, and stubbornness helped her overcome many obstacles in life. She worked for 12 years at the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind where she was well liked and a valued employee. She battled breast cancer for 4 years starting with a lumpectomy & radiation but cancer recurred. She had a mastectomy & chemotherapy but cancer recurred. She was fighting with chemotherapy again. She wanted to recover & return to work. But, she caught Covid-19 which caused kidney failure and her body, weakened by cancer and chemotherapy, couldn't tolerate dialysis and she went to be with the Lord. She was friendly, happy, gregarious, had a positive attitude, and loved God. She will be missed by her family and many friends. She loved BBQs & parties, strawberries, fried shrimp, ham sandwiches, beef fajita tacos, cucumbers with ranch dip, Folgers coffee and fresh squeezed lemon juice in her ice water. We will always remember her smile, sense of humor, friendliness, and determination to be independent. Deborah will be cremated. Her daughters plans to divide her ashes into 3 urns. One for each to keep Mom with them, and one to bury near the grave of the beloved grandmother who raised her. Please wear pink to her funeral in honor of her fight with breast cancer. Instead of flowers, donations toward funeral expenses would be appreciated. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Dellcrest Funeral Home.
