Diana Ann Portillo Dominqez, 80, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024. She was born on December 6, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. Diana is preceded in death by her mother Frances Garza, husband of 39 years Luciano Dominquez, and beloved dogs Jack, Sheriff, and Lamar. Diana is survived by her children Liz Barcena (Roland), Louis Dominquez (Jennifer), Edmund Dominquez, and devoted fur baby Coco. Grandchildren Andrew (Christina), Felicia, Matthew (Gaby), Alyssa (Joseph), Kori (Kimberly), Alejandro, and Ameh. Great grandchildren Ayden, Callie, Serenity, Sean, Steven. Granddogs Puppy, Draper, Jax, Girl, and Buzz. Brother in kinship Leonard and Diana Cortez, Compadres David and Elena Ramirez along with other family members, and countless friends who mourn her passing. Diana was affectionately known as “Da” by her family. To find Da was to find laughter, love, community spirit, and, on occasion, a joke you did not see coming. Da worked hard to ensure her children and grandchildren made the right decisions and worked harder with them when they did not. With all of the hard work put in on weekdays, her weekends were dedicated to family activities, whether it be a sporting event, PTA meetings, or weekly trips to New Braunfels with Luciano to visit relatives, watch football, and shop at the outlets. These gatherings were primarily about celebrating family and you did not want to be a subject at the adults’ table. As the family matriarch, Da laid the foundation for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren instilling the values of hard work, service, taking care of family, and having fun along the way. Da’s calendar was a reflection of her commitment to service and community. Her calendar was often filled with social charity events where she and Luciano devoted their time in service to others. She was a faithful servant at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Los Guadalupanos, Knights of Columbus Council 4140 and the Alamo Caravan of the International Order of Alumbra 269. Da’s beauty at 80 is a testament to a life rich of experience, a celebration of unique beauty with no bounds, crowned with strands of white hair, she wore her wisdom like a crown. She boldly wore long eyelashes, a touch of glamor to her ageless charm. Visiting the nail salon was one of her cherished rituals. Da’s beauty was more than skin deep, in her presence age was not a barrier but a badge of honor, a reminder of a life lived fully and passionately. Timeless beauty. At night you could find Da in her recliner passionately cheering and hollering for her beloved San Antonio Spurs. There’s no way David, Tim, Tony, her favorite, Manu, and Victor “Wendy” Wembanyama, could not have heard her. The family expresses deep gratitude to the dedicated doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital ICU and VITAS Healthcare for their compassionate care and support during Diana’s final days.
