Doris Christine Tyler Craven An Angel of a person has Passed away August 16, 2022. Doris was 93 years of age and was cherished by so many. Known as Mom, Grandmommy and Aunt Doris by those who loved her she lived a long and fulfilling life. She raised four children, loved dearly, and showed her Eight Grandchildren what grandparent love is and was blessed to have hugged, kissed on Eleven great grandchildren plus four great great grandchildren. That makes 29 children that Doris’s blood flowed through. Grandmommy as most of us called her, loved and treated like her own each Son and Daughter in-law plus her grandchildren’s spouses. Her Nephews and Nieces were always loved like her own and were always in her thoughts and prayers. Doris was blessed with many members in her extended family of Aunts, Uncles and cousins whom she enjoyed spending family reunion times with, she also enjoyed fishing and traveling. For Doris to get to visit a family member was always time well spent. She was truly a family oriented human being. Doris was born July 2nd, 1929, in San Saba, Texas. She was the fourth Child of seven born to Mack and Alice Tyler. She married the love of her life George Wiley Craven on June 29th, 1946, in a double Wedding ceremony along with and next to George’s Brother Leon Nellum and Doris’s First Cousin Lillie Justice Craven. Nellum introduced George and Doris. George and Doris were lovingly married almost 56 years until George’s passing in 2002. Doris is survived by her only living brother MC “Pete” Tyler, her three Daughters and their husbands as follows Amy Catherine Craven Olsen and husband Joe Smith, Francie Ann Craven Kosub and her husband Alan Kosub, and Georgia Christine Craven Horvath and her husband Stephen Horvath. Unfortunately, their only son Roger Mack Craven preceded Doris in death. Doris spent her childhood in and around San Saba County Tx. After Marriage she and George Moved briefly to California and also spent a bit of time living in Ft Smith Arkansas. Then back to Texas in San Saba a few years later to then settle in San Antonio where they raised their family. They were members of Los Angeles Heights, St. Johns, then the Trinity United Methodist churches. Once her children were almost grown, Doris worked in the Sears Store at Central Park Mall part time in the Sewing materials and linens department. As an accomplished seamstress she often made clothes for the family and even some wedding dresses for her children's weddings. Never afraid of a challenge, she and George restored her parents' San Saba home in her retirement years and then returned to San Antonio to be full time caregivers for her special needs grandson. In her mid Seventies she moved to Helotes to occupy her own little 200 sf cottage. This was tiny even before they were called Tiny houses. She enjoyed independence but was always happy to have a visitor and to still travel well into her Eighties. In 2017 at Eighty seven she became a resident at Brookdale Whitby Assisted Living in San Antonio. There she made some friends and accepted that this would be a nice place to live out her remaining years. Due to deteriorating health, she spent her final days with visits from her loving Daughters and the constant care of Francie, her Middle daughter, comforting her in her last few days here on Earth. Doris now spreads her Angel wings and Ascends to Heaven to reunite with George and all those loving Family members who arrived before her. Visitation will be held at Oak Hills Mortuary 8332 Fredericksburg Road, 78229 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022 Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. followed with interment in Mission Burial Park North.
