Doris Ruth Tomasini Vizza arrived at her final destination, February 27, 2023, where she was met at the heavenly gates by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who embraced, loved, welcomed, and escorted her to the room He prepared for her in His mansion. A lifetime resident of San Antonio, Texas, Doris was a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. As a child growing up in the Coker Community, Doris loved to ride her horse, Betsy, shoot her Daisy BB gun, tease her older brothers, and play with the farm animals and her friends. Doris spent many of her teenage years motorcycling with her friends and cousins and dancing the nights away. It was at a dance where Orlando Vizza swept her off her feet: six months later they became husband and wife. A stay-at-home mom, Doris devoted herself to the loving care of her three children. In her empty nest years, Doris devoted much of her time to her amazing grandchildren and family, whom she loved dearly and deeply. She traveled most of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, created a picturesque garden, played dominoes with her friends, sewed, crocheted, decorated Christmas cookies and birthday cakes, designed beautiful floral arrangements, painted, and much more. An independently strong woman, Doris was a force to be reckoned with; she lived her life on her terms, her way. She loved God and country, animals, cultivating her flower garden, reading, and a good margarita. Doris enjoyed a good joke as well as pulling a few practical jokes on others. As a Christian, Doris loved Jesus Christ and was an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she served on numerous committees. She modeled the importance of church worship to her children, by attending every Sunday. The 10 Commandments were what the family lived by. Doris showed gratitude to God by faithfully supporting numerous charities and helping others in need. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Orlando John Vizza, Sr., her parents, Mitchell Alfred “Fred” and Margaret Ann “Maggie” Tomasini, her brothers, Mitchell, Elmer, and Von, and her son, O. John Vizza, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann “Maggie” Hartman and Elizabeth Jean Traeger and her husband, Delbert; grandchildren, Nick Hartman, Jr. and his wife, Sofia, Duane Hilburn, Jr., James Hilburn and his wife, Sofia, Jennifer Oda and her husband, Tony, and Jason Vizza; great grandchildren, Matthew Elder, Amanda Hilburn, Ryan Stier, Oliver Hilburn, Levi Hilburn and Lauren Hartman. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Graveside Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Coker Cemetery, 231 East North Loop Road.
