Dorothy Mae Burleson Life Reflections Dorothy M. Burleson was born February 28, 1933 to the late Waymon and Doris Millett in New Branufels, Texas, and was the oldest of seventeen children. Dorothy always had a saying , "Be home before the street lights come on." On November 6, 2013 she made it to her heavenly home before the street lights came on. Dorothy met and married the love her life William L. Burleson of San Marcos, Texas on March 8, 1951. They moved to San Antonio, Texas where she lived until her death. From this union five children were born; Kendall, Wanda, Bernard, Winifred and Yvonne. She opened her home to children in need by being a foster parent for many years. She was also a mother figure to her sisters, nieces, nephews and the children in the community. Her home was the place where many people found refuge and all were welcome. It was a home filled with love, wisdom, and laughter. It was her humor and laughter that brought smiles to our face. Although she did not have the opportunity to graduate from high school, she understood the power of an education and pushed her children and grandchildren to pursue an education and their dreams. Dorothy believed anything was possible if you just believed and worked hard to pursue your dreams. Dorothy's faith in God and willingness to share His love touched and encouraged not only her family but all who knew her. Her devotion to the Lord and Palestine Baptist Church was evident in her faithfulness and willingness to serve as the Lord led her. She was an active member of Palestine Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. L.A. Crenshaw until her death. She served on the following auxiliaries at Palestine: Youth Sponsor, Usher Board, Mission Board, Nurses Aid, Hospitality, Choir and Chair Lady for Women's Day and Church Anniversary. Although she wouldn't pray out loud, she was a silent force to be reckoned with. It was her strength and faith that pulled her family together in the darkest hours of our lives. Dorothy stayed at home with her children until her youngest child was ten. She worked at Joske's of Texas for ten years and also for Parent child Incorporated for an additional ten years. Dorothy was preceded in death by William L. Burleson, Husband, Waymon Millett, Father; Doris Millett, Mother, Bertha Millett, Sister; Barbara Jean Millett, Sister; Gloria Clark, Sister; Ida Dean, Sister; Gwendolyn Chamberlain and a host of other family members and friends.
