Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy Consol Jenkins (83) of Elmendorf, Texas passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, after an extended illness. Dorothy Louise Consol was born on September 3, 1939, in Chicago, IL to Violet Mae Locke and Walter Ahlstrand, and was later adopted by Walter Wesley Consol. She moved to San Antonio by 1950. Dorothy met Vergil D. Jenkins in a crowd of people through a mutual friend and after several years together, married him on May 9, 1975. They were together for more than 43 years and celebrated 38 full years of marriage. She worked for several years as a Comptroller for Manor Care. She also spoke fondly about her time as an Arthur Murray dance instructor. Dorothy and Vergil very quickly adopted Maroon and White after four of their grandchildren went to Texas A&M University. She loved watching both Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboy football, as well as the San Antonio Spurs. She treasured visits with her grandchildren and in recent years, she crafted beautiful wreaths. She hosted her huge extended family for Christmas Eve, often serving homemade enchilada casserole, and always had gifts for everyone. Dorothy was a true spitfire and would definitely tell you how it was. This was noted on multiple occasions with a flying finger and a smirk. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vergil Jenkins, her parents Walter and Violet Consol, her brother Walter Consol Jr., several brothers- and sisters-in-law, her dog Scooter and her first husband Winfred H. Moore. Dorothy is survived by her sons Kenneth (Beth) Moore, Keith (Donna) Moore, stepchildren James (Carolyn) Jenkins and Annette (Jimmy) Guidry, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy leaves behind too many friends to name, including her long-time hairdresser Rosemary, and her best friend Judy who has been her housemate, companion, travel buddy, Covid shut-in partner, partner in crime, and loving caregiver. Pallbearers will be Bradley Moore, James Maddox, Jimmy Guidry, Matthew Hannasch, Matthew Strey, and Michael Noll. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 2, 2023, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Burial will follow with a graveside service at San Jose Burial Park.
