NEESVIG Composed by Dr. Burton Neesvig Dr. Burton Neesvig reluctantly, but peacefully passed away at home on February 21, 2011, having succumbed to a rare blood disorder called myelodysplasia. He was preceded in death by his by parents, Burton and Margaret Neesvig of Madison, WI, and his sisters Ruth Olson, Elizabeth Von Rutenberg, Jean Geving, and Peggy Neesvig. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kathleen Neesvig with whom he shared his life for 28 years. Other survivors include his sister Patricia Madoni of Portage, WI as well as nine children and stepchildren: Gina Deason, Mike Harwell, Tom Harwell, Burton John Neesvig, Keri Neesvig, Lisa Neesvig, Tina Pfeiffer, Tami Rocha, and Jackie Walker. Not to be ignored are his 15 grandchildren. Dr. Neesvig also has many close relatives and friends in Madison, WI where he was born and raised. These include 3 half brothers Jonathan, Tim and Dan Manchester, and half-sister Ann Baumbach. Dr. Neesvig was born in 1938 in Madison, WI. He graduated with high honors from the Univ. of Wisconsin Medical School. In 1965, the Viet Nam War interrupted his residency and he was called to duty in the Air Force resulting in a move to Texas, which he never regretted. After two years as a Flight Surgeon in Del Rio, he moved to San Antonio and opened an office as a General Practitioner. For 33 years he worked hard as a GP, trying to provide the best of care for his patients, always attempting to keep their medical costs as low as possible. Can you believe he charged only six dollars for an office visit in 1967? Neesvig's Meat Company in Madison, WI. was founded by Dr. Neesvig's grandfather, Oswald, in 1913 and subsequently operated by his father, Burton Ted Neesvig until his death at age 59. Ted's wife Jean assumed ownership of the company which still exists and bears the Neesvig name. Dr. Neesvig was very proud of the family business and would have been part of it today had he not chosen to be a doctor. In his early years of practice Dr. Neesvig was instrumental in the development of Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital where he served as Chief of Staff in 1981. He always had great respect for his fellow physicians at Methodist and felt it an honor and privilege to be their associate. He also donated a great deal of his time and efforts to Boysville, Inc., which he always considered to be a superb and deserving organization. SERVICES Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 PM Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, February 25, 2011 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78218. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Boysville, Inc., PO Box 369, 8555 E. Loop 1604 North, Converse, TX 78109--210-659-1001.
