Edith Lydia Gabler Lane, age 94, was welcomed into her heavenly home on September 17, 2023. Edith was born on May 16, 1929 to Adolph and Dora Gabler in East Bernard, Texas. As a farm girl, some of her responsibilities were caring for the animals, picking cotton and entertaining her younger sister. Earning a degree in business, she was in the first graduating class of Wharton County Junior College. She later moved to McAllen, Texas where she met the love of her life, Veryl Lane, in Training Union at the First Baptist Church. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Edith enjoyed baking and sewing for her family and teaching Sunday School at University Park Baptist Church in San Antonio. Learning about her family history and genealogy and attending family reunions were passions of hers. And of course, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Dora Gabler, her beloved husband Veryl Lane, her sisters Helen Tomlin and Dorothy Smith, nephew Timothy Smith, and great-grandson Elias Bennett Field. She is survived by her sister Shirley Burns, daughters Theresa Field (John) and Lydia Chasen (Larry), and grandchildren Christopher Field (Amanda), Kimberly Hannan (Andrew), and Erin Chasen. Her great-granddaughters include Amelia and Jacqueline Hannan, and Allison Field. She is also survived by her niece Judith Smith and nephews Alan Smith, Russell Burns (Rebecca), Kenneth Burns (Lisa) and many beloved great nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks go out to her wonderful caregivers at Comfy Home who took such amazing care of her in the past year and a half and also to those at Autumn Grove Cottage in Katy where she lived previously. Thank you for bringing joy to Mom’s life by laughing and singing with her. We are also very grateful for the staff and caregivers of Vantage Hospice. There will be a small, family graveside Celebration of Life at 2:30 pm Friday, September 29 at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH-10 West, San Antonio, Texas 78257.
