Eduviges Olivares, 97 of Austin, Texas went to her heavenly rest on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Duvi to her friends was born in El Paso, Texas on August 2, 1925. She came to many changes in her life from the day of her birth, she was the daughter of Francisco and Francisca Villanueva. She lived through the Great Depression. She and her family survived many hardships to arrive at a new turning point in her life. With many new changes Duvi graduated from Bowie high school and went on to work and meet who would soon be her other half, perhaps her better half Mr. Gustavo Olivares. That was a great change in her life. A hard worker and native Texan from El Paso Miss Duvi moved to Wisconsin with Gustavo and two small children Irene and Ofelia another big change in her life. Duvi studied cosmetology, became a hair stylist and later owned her own beauty parlor in Austin, Texas in 1965. She went to work at what was then a popular store called Dillard’s, another change in her life. She held presidential roles in the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. She served in the school districts baking in the cafeterias, known for her biscuits and breads. Through all the changes, all the dances, social engagements, all the wonderful talks with friendly caring neighbors who have also gone through the many changes, her and her better half are finally together again. Miss Duvi had to face another big change in her life and again her faithful family, faithful friends, companions and care givers are by her side. For this final celebration of Miss Duvi’s long-lived life we will be honored to usher her through a final change to resting place and life ever after. To all of the important people in her life those that are here and those who are here in spirit, the family of Duvi Olivares thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Eduviges “Duvi” Olivares was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Francisca Villanueva; two brothers Jose and Manuel Villanueva; her husband Gustavo Olivares; her sister and brother-in-law Amparo (Manuel) Castro. She is survived by her sister Delia Paquian; nephews Ruben Paquian, Michael Paquian, and Gilbert Paquian; sister-in-law Maria del Rosario Olivares; nephew Peter, nieces Rosario and Amparo; daughters Irene (Lee) Garcia and Ofelia (John) Sosa; grandchildren Charmane (Brent) Standifer, Victoria (Francisco) Garcia, Lorenzo (Lisa) Garcia, Catherine (David) Fragoso, John (Shasta) Sosa; great-grandchildren Hannah, Darian, Madilynn, Andrew, Stephen, Frankie, Nicholas, Leila, Isabel, Salvador, Saul, Israel, Gustavo, John Michael, Matthew, Juliana, and Alessandra. She will be greatly missed by several nephews, nieces, and cousins in Texas, Illinois and Mexico. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North followed by a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m.on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in shelter #3.
