Edward G. Wayo Gutierrez, entered into rest and is with the Lord on this day, Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the age of 72. He was born on October 5, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas. Wayo attended Harlandale H.S. and then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. Upon his return to San Antonio in 1955, he met Leonor Torres at Karams Restaurant and married her in 1957, the same year he earned his Associates Degree from St. Phillips College in Industrial Education. He retired from civil service work in 1979 as a Small Arms Repairer. Although retired, his passion to repair arms continued the rest of his life. He also co-owned Mission Trail Grocery with Leonor until 2000. Wayo was the caretaker for the Mission Espada Cemetery and a fundraiser for many local/civic activities. What made him the happiest was spending time with his children and grandchildren; working in his shop; cutting the grass; wearing a cap; and shooting the breeze while having a cold one. He is survived by his darling wife of 48 years, Leonor T. Gutierrez; sons, Edward T. Gutierrez and wife Aurora, Robert T. and wife Sylvia, George A. and wife Maricela, and Michael J. and wife Ligia; daughter, Pat Miller and husband George; grandchildren, Robert B. Gutierrez Jr., Jeffrey Miller and wife Karla, students at UTSA, Zachary Miller, student and corp member at Texas A&M, Michelle Miller, Andres Gutierrez, Gabriela Gutierrez, Monica Gutierrez, George Gutierrez II, Gianna Gutierrez, Diego Gutierrez, Gwyn Gutierrez, Gavin Gutierrez, and Daniela Gutierrez; great grandson, Robert Gutierrez III; brother, Ernesto G. Gutierrez; sister, Maria Herlinda Thornton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward H.; mother, Rosa G.; and brother, Antonio. Services Visitation will be Tuesday, 4:00 5:00 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A rosary will follow at 7:00 PM at San Francisco de La Espada Catholic Mission. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 10:00 AM at San Francisco de La Espada Catholic Mission with Father Larry Brummer as celebrant. Interment to follow at Espada Cemetery with US Air Force Military Honors.
