Eleanor D. "Nona" Kelly, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in Boerne, Texas at the age of 97 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Eleanor was born to Thomas and Laura Pearl Lorillard McGowan in San Antonio, Texas, on January 24, 1913. She was the eldest of twelve children. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1930. She met and married her "Freddy" on April 2, 1932. She worked at Peaslee Gaulbert during World War II and later at Ft. Sam Houston as purchasing clerk for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Laura Pearl McGowan; husband, Fred Kelly; brothers, Thomas Jr.; Robert S; Harry A; Donald B; sisters, Leslie P. Mulhern; Laura B. Micheli; Bonnie L. Olsen; Betty J. Lewis; Joan P. Haese; and a great grandson Ryan M.D. Crowe. Eleanor "Alpha" is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Crowe of Boerne; Patricia Gooden and husband J.W. "Bill" of Boerne; Lyndalee Holden and husband Melvin of San Antonio; sister, Jean P. Robertson of San Antonio; and brother Terry P. McGowan "Omega" and wife, Beth of Victoria, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; "Nona", as she was known, loved to read, do crossword puzzles, crochet, crafts of all kinds, tending her tomatoes and loved cooking, especially her "famous enchiladas and baked beans" for everyone. She loved life and people; and leaves behind many friends. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed being active as Elder, Circle Leader, and just being involved. Her Church family was very "Special" to her. She will be missed by all who knew her. As Reagan, a great granddaughter, said the best thing about Nona is "She just can't stop loving." We would like to thank Vitas Hospice, Team 551 of San Antonio for their "Tender Loving Care" given to our Mom and our family during our time of need. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charlie Cropper officiating. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery III.
