Elida Vargas Peña was born in Odem, Texas on April 7, 1941, and went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2024, at the age of 83. Elida loved her family so much, she was a devoted member of the St. Leonard’s Catholic Church where she was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Guadalupana, administered communion to home bound and was a prayer warrior to many. One of her accomplishments that will live on forever is bringing the Devine Chaplet Mercy in 2001 to her beloved parish after graduating from The Oblate of Theology School. In 2010 she had to turn it over to Mr. and Mrs. George Orta so she could care for her ailing husband. She left behind a beautiful legacy. She loved taking care of children so after her husband retired in the early 1990’s from civil service she went to work for several day care centers, and she finally retired from St. Lawrence Day Care Center. In her past time, she enjoyed church trips to San Juan Shrine and Progresso. She was very charismatic and loved praying for people. She visited many prayer groups throughout the surrounding San Antonio area. She loved music, bingo, going to casinos and arts & crafts. She was a fan of the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She touched so many people’s hearts. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Lawrence G. Peña, Jr., parents Dario Vargas and Simona Barrera, sister Maria Gloria Arias, twin baby boy grandsons and son-in-law Bill Sims, Jr. Survivors include her loving children: Lawrence Adam Peña, Yvonne Marie Salinas (Claudio), JoAnn Sims, Maureen Mona Molina (Daniel), and Kennith Peña, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and other loving family members and friends. Visitation will begin on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Brookehill Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park.
