Elidia J Mercado September 14,1934 -July 31, 2025 Elidia was called home by our Lord at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Ventura Juarez, only brother Francisco (Frank), sisters Antonia, Magdalena, Sarah and Esther. She was also preceded in death by her late husband Elias C. Rodriguez who passed at the young age of 40 years old. Elidia is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Luis Mercado, sister Beatrice Baron, 5 children, Cynthia Ann Gutierrez, Norma Lilia Anderson, Elisa Van Dover, Annette Rodriguez and Elias jr “Eli” Rodriguez , son in laws: Roger Anderson, Robert Martinez, Darrell Van Dover and Paul T. Hernandez ; 11 Loving grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Elidia was affectionately called “Dear Grandma” by her eldest granddaughter, “Grammy” by her great grandchildren and “Aunt Lillie” by nieces and nephews. Elidia “Lillie” raised 5 children as a young widow and was for the first time employed out of the house in retail, then as an EKG technician in 1973 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio . Elidia worked with and established life long friendships with Celia and Julia Chavez. Elidia left the Baptist Hospital and retired from SAISD, Antonio Margil Elementary. Mom enjoyed sewing, cooking and dancing with her husband Luis, friends and sisters. She and Luis spent much time together visiting and playing table games regularly with family in Corpus Christi. Elidia loved family gatherings and watching her family grow, enjoying additions to the family and picture taking. Mom kept many, many photo albums that we have and will continue to enjoy. Mom was infectious with and enjoyed silly poses for pictures, leaving us with memories of happiness. Her later years were also occupied with enjoyable table games- to the end playing with her children/ grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Rummy and Chinese checkers were her favorite and she often won. Always letting her family know that she was a “WINNER ”. The truth was that we/her family were the winners for having her as long as we did in our lives. She was surrounded by her family in the end. We all feel blessed to have had a Mother that was loving and caring and know that she is still watching over us as she always did. WE LOVE YOU MOM❤️ Visitation will be held 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Monday, August 18, 2025 with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church followed by Rite of Committal at Mission Burial Park South.
