It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Lee Bues, a beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 96. Her remarkable journey began on November 22, 1928, in Talladega, Alabama, where she was born to Effie Ledbetter and James T. Ledbetter. Even in her early years, Elizabeth exhibited a spirit of generosity and faith that would define her life. Elizabeth grew up with an enduring commitment to family and community, shaped by her loving parents and a closeknit family. She was preceded in death by her cherished children: Wilbur Lee Carpenter, George Thomas Carpenter, Linda Ann Cortez, as well as her son-in-law Larry Cortez and her daughter-in-law Linda Kay Carpenter. She also mourned the passing of her siblings—Kathryn Bowman, Becky Murphy, Mary Gaither, Zack Ledbetter, Edward Ledbetter, Bud Ledbetter, Truby Ledbetter, A.T. “Shorty” Ledbetter, Charles “Cotton” Ledbetter, and Carl “Blondie” Ledbetter, whose memories she cherished dearly. In 1951, Elizabeth met and married James Wilbur Carpenter, a union that blossomed into 26 years of love and devotion, during which they welcomed five wonderful children into the world. Her family was always her pride and joy. She is survived by her beloved children, JC William Carpenter (Tammy) and Mary Beth Carpenter, who carry forward her legacy of love. Elizabeth also leaves behind a vibrant lineage: her grandchildren Renae Allen (Ismael), April Ostrander (David), Bryan Jordan (Ashley), Maritza Perez (David), Rebekah Parra (Paul), Shawn Cortez, and Aspen Carpenter (John); along with her great-grandchildren, each a testament to her nurturing spirit: Anthony Perez (Cora), Alicia Ostrander, Isaiah Allen, Samantha Perez, David Ostrander Jr., Destiny Ostrander, Cailee Allen, Olivia Allen, Elaina Allen, Paul St. Manuel Vega, and Jackson Calandrino. In 1984, Elizabeth’s heart found joy once more when she married Henry Bues, whom she met on the dance floor. Their union brought her happiness and companionship in the later years of her life, enriching her journey. Together, they created lasting memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew them. Elizabeth's professional life was marked by her unwavering dedication to service. She graduated high school and soon became a certified switchboard operator, showcasing her determination and ambition from a young age. Elizabeth later dedicated herself to service, finding joy and fulfillment in her work at Marbach Christian Church Daycare and the Lackland AFB Mess Hall, where she eventually retired in 1983. Her career was not just a means of livelihood; it was a continuation of her commitment to care for and support others. Her spiritual journey was deeply intertwined with her community involvement. Elizabeth was an devoted member of Marbach Christian Church of San Antonio, TX, where her contributions were manifold—serving on the board, performing in the choir, member of the Crafters, and acting as the Fellowship Coordinator. She was passionate about guiding others in their faith, participating in The Walk to Emmaus herself, and nurturing spiritual growth in her community, church, and family. Liz had a zest for life, often found cheering for her favorite sports teams—the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and of course, her beloved Alabama Roll Tide. Her enthusiastic spirit was contagious, and she brought joy to those around her with her laughter and warmth. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Veronica, Jaime, and the wonderful team at Angels Touch Hospice for the exceptional care and support they provided during Elizabeth's final months. A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held on March 18th, 2025, at Mission Park Dominion, 20900 IH 10 W, San Antonio, TX 78257. Viewing will begin at 10am in the Chapel, with service and burial to follow. All that knew and cared for her are invited to join in honoring her remarkable journey. Elizabeth Lee Bues will be remembered not only for her love of family and friends but also for her unwavering faith, her kindness to others, and her dedication to service. She lived her life as an example of grace and resilience, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved family and at home in God’s embrace.
