Tributes

It is with utter sorrow that Elizabeth Elaine McGhee went home to be with our Lord and savior on June 14, 2024, at the age of 80 years old. She was an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Elaine was born on July 6, 1943, to Howard E. Long and Ruby E. (Terry) Long. Elaine graduated from East Central High School in 1961, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, John Charles “Big John” McGhee. They lived a humble and glorious life together on their family farm. They were married for 59 beautiful years, and had three children, ten grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Elaine was a substitute teacher and special education teacher in the East Central School District for many many years. She touched the lives of so many students and co-workers. She was tough, but fair and always compassionate – just ask some of her children and grandchildren, who were privileged to have her as a substitute teacher. She loved her time as an educator and valued her time spent in the classroom teaching. Outside of the classroom, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to go shopping, especially with her best friend Violet “Vi” Stephens, and she especially enjoyed getting lunch with her friends and sisters. She loved to crochet many different projects, especially baby blankets for her great grandchildren, and she LOVED a good puzzle! She had a collection of puzzles that she cherished and loved to put together while watching her favorite shows. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband. She is survived by her two sisters, Adele and Terry, and her two brothers, Jeff and Robert. She leaves behind a legacy of loved ones to cherish her memory, those being: her three sons, Thomas “Tommy” McGhee (Tracy), Ronnie McGhee (DeeDee), John Charles “Chuck” McGhee, Jr. (Deana); her grandson, Colby; her nine granddaughters, Tarah (Andre), Stormy (Kyle), Lauren, Ashley, Alexis (Jarrett), Lexi (Keegan), Kayla, Karly (Mason), and Kassidy; her sixteen great grandchildren and numerous other loving family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Good News Lutheran Church, 11020 Old Corpus Christi Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78223. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
