JUELG Elmer J Juelg, born February 17, 1928, died on November 18, 2013. He is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Elmer retired from the San Antonio Fire Department as a Lieutenant in 1971 after 22 years of service. Prior to that, Elmer served his country in the United States Army in Japan, the Philippines and Okinawa, as well as Finland while in the Merchant Marines and finally, in the Texas National Guard. Elmer served as Field Business Manager and Finance Director for Lutheran Bible Translators in Liberia, West Africa and California. He is credited with helping develop a thorough language survey map of West Africa. Elmer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Ruth Stauffer Juelg; 5 children: Amy Lee Juelg Parker of North Carolina; Teri Ann Juelg Vogeli of Michigan, Russel l "Rusty" Juelg of New Jersey , Mark Juelg of San Antonio and Laurie Lynn "Lolly" Juelg Unger of San Antonio, TX; 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Elmer was admired by those who knew him for his frank honesty, unsurpassed organizational skills, hard work ethic, integrity, independence, care and concern for others- especially those he loved, hilarious sense of humor and love of God , Country, family and the Church. Elmer is fondly remembered for his love of fishing, hunting and family times, outstanding barbeque and candy making skills and just a lot of great fun to hang out with! He was a man of nicknames and besides nicknaming everyone around him, he was known as Dad, Buster, Nunnie, Elmer , PawPaw and Yoke. He loved all his roles and especially his role as PawPaw. He directed that his funeral was to be a celebration with, "no slow, mournful songs" only Easter hymns that are "JOYFUL!". He said, "Have fun! I am!" and suggested a wake with tamales and beer. He was quite an extraordinary gentleman. We all have such incredible and fond memories of spending time with him. His family hopes that's what everyone will remember. Elmer loved the Bible and Hymns that spoke of Heaven. Some of his favorite Bible verses taken from the Obituary that he himself partly wrote "Sooner or later, something is going to kill me!" are: Romans 8:11, I Corinthians 22: 12-26 and 51-58 and John 14: 1-6. He was looking forward to his journey to Heaven! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Viewing will be held Saturday, November 23 from 2-5 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapel, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio, TX 78230. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013, 230pm, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church 6914 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, 1115am. Elmer has requested "Happy Easter Flowers", or if you prefer, he has asked that you send a donation to Shepherd of the Hills, Building Maintenance Fund in his memory.
