Elvia R. Palacios passed away on January 16, 2026, at her home in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Elvia Ramona was born to parents George Peña and Carolina Talamantez on October 13, 1934, in Brackettville, Texas. Elvia grew up in Brackettville with her older brother Alfredo, who preceded her in death. Elvia met the love of her life, Rolando Palacios, in San Antonio, Texas, while attending business college. They married on December 18, 1954. They raised their children Delma J. Soriano (Ruben), Roland R. Palacios (Mary Ann), Daniel and Donald Palacios (deceased August 1963), E. Yvette Herder (Wayne), Annette M. Palacios (Brooke), George J. Palacios (Tina) and Joel R. Palacios (Cindy) in their forever home in San Antonio. Elvia’s love of family extended to all her wonderful grandchildren: Freddy (Brandi), Roland (Sabrina), Scott, Cierra (Harrison), Maverick, Micah, Lauren (Aziz), Austin, Aaron, Alexus, Rio, Justice, Fuego, June, and her 11 amazing great-grandchildren. Elvia actively participated in her children’s and grandchildren’s scholastic lives whether helping with homework, PTA meetings, festivals, sports events, fund raisers…anything for her family. She was always there and was bestowed the honor of Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership. Family and friends were so important to Elvia, and she reached out often to check in, have a little “chisme”, to remember birthdays and special events and just to say “¿que paso?”. In Brackettville, Elvia mastered the art of dressmaking from her aunts and high school classes and carried that creative skill with her as a young homemaker and fashioned most of her children’s clothing including rubber pants with fancy lace. Did we mention her extraordinary cooking and baking skills? Well for all of us who know, it was delicious – cakes and pastries, pasta salad and famous potato salad, fideo loco and menudo, tamales and carne guisada and so much more! Every bite, every morsel was filled with love! Elvia was so creative and skilled she mentored a group of Harlandale High School students with Home Economic classes in the 1980s. Elvia, along with a group of very dear and dedicated friends, decorated St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for its special occasions. For all her in-laws, nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins, friends and cohorts that are not named, please know that she loved you all and spoke of you often with stories that her children carry forward. From us, we want you to know how grateful we are that you were a part of her long and remarkable life.
