Anthony Gawlik, age 93 of San Antonio, Texas entered Gods Kingdom on Sunday December 21, 2014. He was born on December 3, 1921 in Cestohowa, Texas to Alex and Agatha Gawlik. He married Eleanor Nora Dworaczyk on February 17, 1947 and celebrated 67 years of marriage this past year. Emil really enjoyed farming in Cestohowa for over twenty five years until the drought of the fifties resulted in moving the family to San Antonio. In his days in Cestohowa, he was also employed by the Falls City ISD where he drove busses for the teams and pep squads. He always greeted everyone with a smile as they boarded for a trip to an event or back home. He was a baseball enthusiast as he played for the Koscuisko Red Sox and later Cestohowa Holy Name. Before long, Emil was named the manager of the Cestohowa team and his teams proceeded to always be in the playoff hunt. He never met a stranger as he was fluent in three languages: English, Polish, and Spanish. Once the family moved to San Antonio, he started another career to meet the needs of the family as an expert butcher at Lovelace Super Market, McBees and Zamzows Super Market. An outstanding family man till the end, he always prided himself on always providing for the family first. Despite no longer farming, he still kept up with what was going on in the farm world and did so right up to his final day. He was an active member at St. Benedicts Church always volunteering to help each year at the Church festival. He enjoyed fishing with his family along the Texas Coast and local rivers. He never came back empty handed from his fishing excursions. He brought his farming skills into his annual back yard gardens which produced bumper crops of assorted vegetables that were canned for family and neighbor use. On Sundays, you could always count on his famous barbeque and his secret recipe potato salad. He was a sports lover who kept up with his dear to heart Spurs, Longhorns, Cowboys, and his favorite, the Texas Ranger Baseball team. If you needed to check on a score and how the game went, you simply had to call "ESPNEMIL". Emil was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Agatha Gawlik and sister Bernice Kyrish. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Eleanor Nora, three sons, Willie Gawlik and his wife Roe, Larry Gawlik, Glenn Gawlik, grandkids Mickey Gawlik, Jeanette and husband Tim Smith, Shelley and husband Art Garza and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends our sincere appreciation to Daisy Kelley and Helen Sterling for their compassionate and loving care of Emil over the last five years. Also thank you to the staff of Optum for the services they provided for the family over the last few months. Pallbearers as requested by Emil include: Leroy Rollowitz, Doug Rollowitz, Louie Jaskina, Jason Mutz, Marvin Moczygemba, and Wayne Parker. Visitation will be held on Friday December 26 from 5:30 to 7 PM followed by a rosary at 7 PM at St. Benedicts Catholic Church 4535 Lord Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78220. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday December 27 at 10:30 AM at St. Benedicts Catholic Church with Fr. Eddie Bernal celebrant. Following the funeral mass, graveside burial service will take place at the St. Ann's Cemetery, Koscuisko, Texas.
