Enrique L. Ortegon

Enrique L. Ortegon, age 87, of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 18, 1938, in Hindes, TX, to Yndelecio and Olivia L. Ortegon, Enrique lived a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and community. In his early years, he worked in the fields, instilling in him a strong work ethic that guided his entire life. He went on to balance a full-time career of 28 fulfilling years with City Public Service until his retirement, alongside 15 years of part-time work at Sears. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and proud grandfather whose warmth and guidance touched everyone who knew him. Outside of his work and devotion to family, Enrique found great joy in the outdoors, especially camping and capturing cherished moments through photography. Enrique was united in marriage to the love of his life, Estella “Stella” Ortegon, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years, building a home filled with laughter and cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Manuel G. Ortegon (2025); his parents, Yndelecio and Olivia Ortegon; his brothers, Ernesto, Rodolfo, and Jesse Ortegon; and his sisters, Elida Navarro, Emma Pargas, Minnie Martinez, and sister-in-law Maria E. Ortegon. Enrique’s legacy lives on through his surviving family: his cherished wife, Estella; his loving son, David Ortegon, and his wife, Veronica; and his cherished granddaughter, Mia. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Yndalecio Ortegon Jr. and wife Terry, Richard Ortegon Sr., Porfirio Ortegon and wife Sherley, Santiago Ortegon and wife Carmen, Alfredo Ortegon and wife Brenda, Gloria Luna, Victor Ortegon and wife Rosa, and Modesta Horne and husband Gene; his brother-in-law, Tony Garza and wife Lupe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Enrique’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Viewing, Rosary, and Mass will take place from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 1214 Stonewall St., San Antonio, TX 78211. Following the service, the procession will depart immediately for San Fernando Cemetery III, with the graveside reading expected to begin at approximately 11:30 AM. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and honor his life.
