Enrique "Henry" E. Rodriguez 79, returned to his heavenly home on May 15, 2015 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Henry was born to the late Enrique and Oralia Rodriguez, a Texas Electric Service Co. accountant and a homemaker respectively, in Eagle Pass, TX on October 8, 1935. He graduated from St. Mary's University of San Antonio, Texas in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and accepted a various positions as a middle school science teacher in Eagle Pass and San Antonio. He became immersed in the community and always advocated for the disadvantaged to further their education. This passion for further educating the disadvantaged led Henry to a position as a guidance counselor for the United States Department of The Army. This position as a guidance counselor enabled him to counsel our young service men and women who enlisted in the Army to help further their position or careers inside the Army or as civilians once they decided to leave the Army. Henry counseled our young service men and women from 1975 until he retired in 1994. Henry always truly believed that his role as guidance counselor in the Army is where he made the most difference in those lives. Henry was blessed with a beautiful and loving family. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Mary Angela Martinez, on June 7, 1964 in San Antonio, TX. Henry had a love for family, friends and anything mechanical. He raised his three children with an adventurous spirit, which took his family to Europe to experience other cultures through his employment with the United States Department of The Army. He taught his children how to change the oil in vehicles and check the tire pressure. He believed these were basic necessities that everyone should know. Henry was an avid fisherman and immensely enjoyed the beauty of the Texas Gulf Coast. Henry was a true educator at heart and an advocate for the uneducated disadvantaged. He was kind and had such an amazing smile that always welcomed those who needed help. He is dearly missed by his loved ones and close friends, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with our Lord and Savior. Henry is survived by his wife, Mary Angela; his daughters Angela and husband David F. Clark, Teresa Pamela and her husband Vince Ryan of Houston, Texas and son Marc and his wife Debbie of Baytown, Texas; his grandchildren Andrew Ryan, Reed Ryan and Colin Ryan of Houston, Texas; Ciara Clark and Colton Clark of San Antonio, Texas; Isabella Rodriquez and Nicolas Rodriguez of Baytown, Texas; and his sisters, Rosa Rodrigues and Imelda and her husband Robert Cantu. He is preceded in death by his parents and much admired brother-in-law, Edward Rodrigues of Eagle Pass, Texas. A memorial service will be held for Henry at Mission Park North on 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive at 12:00 on Friday, May 22. The Reverend Bill Shockley will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the State of Texas Kidney Foundation.
