The Life of Lyn Anderson Proverbs 31:25-31 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teachings of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her “many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”… Born May 3, 1930 in Brady TX to Ercel and Dora Mae Ritter, Ercelyn was raised by her great aunt and uncle, Kathryn and Norman Freeman, affectionately known as Boo and Grandad. Being born during the Great Depression meant moving around quite a bit. The Freeman family made a home in Brady, Ballenger, Mc Dade, Houston, Bellville, and Rockdale, TX. Despite the moves and overcoming numerous obstacles in her childhood years, Lyn managed to consistently rise to the top. She won several piano competitions, learned to paint with Boo, and naturally made friends everywhere she went. She graduated Bellville High School at the age of 15 and set off to Nursing School at Scott and White Hospital in Austin, TX. Before she left for Nursing School, Grandad gave her one piece of very sage advice, “Don’t bring home one of those Aggie Boys!”, which is precisely what she did. She met, married, and brought home the Aggiest of all Aggies, Gene Anderson. Lyn and Gene were married June 12, 1948 and were married for 63 years. Lyn and Gene had 3 daughters, Lynda, Mary and Diane, their girls were fiercely loved and adored. Lyn’s insatiable desire for growth and learning lead her to start college afresh. With 2 teenage daughters and a 7year old, Lyn put in 18 hours every semester and graduated from St. Mary’s University, Suma Cum Laude, with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in the Northside Independent School District as a classroom teacher. Not fully satisfied in the classroom, she pursued her Masters Degree. She graduated from The University of the Incarnate Word with a Masters Degree in Reading. Her love for reading, books, and children not only influenced her daughters, but also impacted her friends, fellow teachers, students and her grandchildren. With all of her life time accomplishments the role she was born to live out was that of Maw Maw. Each of her 9 grandchildren can attest, she was their biggest cheerleader, encourager, confidant, teacher, Mother Goose, and lover of their hearts and souls. She saw each grandchild as unique and special and called out greatness in them with her incredible life giving words. Not all her words were easy to hear because she spoke truth to them and called them to come up higher, especially in hard and trying times. She often read The Giving Tree to them. She was the embodiment of The Giving Tree, she was the Tree, giving freely and joyfully of her time, words, attention, love, resources and material goods. She was also the boy, never quite satisfied and always ready for what comes next. We celebrate your life Lyn, Mom, Maw Maw and the force that you were. You touched countless lives. You will be remembered for your quick wit, humor, snarky remarks, beautiful singing voice, creativity, musical talents and larger than life presence. We will always remember your love for your husband, family, friends, books, travel, Mexican Food, Whataburger, black jelly beans, and last but not least wine (red, white and all the colors in between ). So with that we say, Goodnight Mr. Beetle, Goodnight Mr. Fly, Goodnight Miss Ladybug the moons in the sky… In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the NSISD Education Foundation - Museum.
