Erwin A. Reinhard Sonny rejoined the love of his life, Irene Reinhard on June 3, 2016. Born January 29, 1931 in Poth, TX, Erwin moved to San Antonio in fifth grade. On the first day of school at St Cecilia's Catholic School, he spotted Irene and told his parents that night that she was the girl he wanted to marry. He attended Central Catholic High School and was a proud member of the Graduating Class of 1949. He married Irene in 1951 and they began a lifetime journey which resulted in six children: Ann Cunningham Larry Harris, Lisa Dangler John, Francis Reinhard Kathy, Erwin J. Reinhard, Tracie Henchy, Katie Rye Loyd. After serving in the United States Army, Erwin earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin and spent most of his working life as a professor and assistant dean in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Following retirement and his return to San Antonio, he and Irene traveled extensively resulting in a large cadre of friends located throughout the United States. In addition, he was instrumental in organizing social events with the "Southside Rats" and social and fund-raising events for Central Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin J. and Agnes Reinhard, his wife, Irene who died in 2008, and his granddaughter, Jennifer Cunningham, as well as one sister, Clydenne Glenn. In addition to his children, he leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren, Elizabeth and Mary Kate Dangler, Anthony, Nelson and John Reinhard, and David and Aaron Rye. He also has one sister, Ann Coy to whom he was very devoted and numerous other family members. The family requests no flowers, instead please consider a donation to Central Catholic High School, Class of 1949. Address is 1403 N. St Mary's, San Antonio, TX 78215. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at Villa de San Antonio and Autumn Grove Cottages for their care for Erwin during the last several years. Services will be conducted by Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Viewing will be from 2 – 5 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Mission Park North. A Rosary will be recited at 5 pm. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10 am on June 27, 2016 at St Luke's Catholic Church at 4603 Manitou Drive, San Antonio, TX followed by burial at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery.
