Dr. Esteban Alejo entered into the arms of Our Heavenly Father on April 7, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 71. Dr. Alejo is survived by his loving wife, travel partner and best friend, Laura De La Garza Alejo, married for 36 years. His children, Esteban Angelica, Myrthala Victor, Andres Lucinda, Gabriel Esteban Sandra, Juan Carlos, Jorge Arturo Nora, Francisco "Paco" Alejo. His 12 grandchildren: Esteban Oliverio Alejo, Isabella Maria Alejo, Alberto E. Alejo, Valeria Alejo, Mia Alejo, Annelise Alejo, Andres A. Alejo Jr., Nayeli Alejo with soon to be baby brother, Victor Julian Padilla, Sebastian Padilla and Raphaella Padilla. He is also survived by his sister, Maria Refugeo Alejo Rios. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Esteban Alejo Parra and Carmen Molina de Alejo, his sister Obdulia Alejo, and his Father and Mother-in-law, Jorge O. De La Garza and Rosa Imelda De La Garza. Dr. Alejo was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on October 20, 1944 to Esteban and Carmen Alejo. He graduated from Universidad de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey in 1967-68 with a degree in Medicine. From 1969 to 1972, he completed his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he became Chief of Residents. In 1975, Dr. Alejo moved to Texas and started his private practice. After 4 years, he moved to his office on 802 Galveston Street. In 1981, Dr. Alejo received his Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Alejo loved life. He truly enjoyed being of service to the community and was known to be a devoted physician. He was a strong advocate for the underprivileged and worked tirelessly to assure his patients receive the best care. Aside from his career, Dr. Alejo partook in various interests. He was an avid reader and art collector. Traveling was, by far, his greatest passion. Dr. Alejo traveled to numerous countries, along with his wife, exploring exotic dishes and cultures. He always looked forward to his next adventure; he always had a suitcase packed and his passport in hand. Dr. Alejo also loved movies and music and was known for quoting lines from movies as well as singing along and listening to music while working. Dr. Alejo was a deeply spiritual man who dedicated most of his adult life to studies on the life of Jesus Christ, the Holy Bible and going to Church. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. A funeral service is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on April 14 at Our Lady of Atonement Catholic Church, 15415 Red Robin Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78255. Father Richard Hall O.M.I will officiate. In Laredo, a Mass is scheduled on Saturday, April 16 at 5:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1718 San Jorge, Laredo TX, 78040. In Lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Dr. Esteban Alejo and Laura Alejo Scholarship Endowment at Texas A&M International University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 5201 University Blvd., Laredo, Texas 78041. The family would like to Thank Mercy Ministries of Laredo, his former patients and colleagues as well as Dr. Sebastian Padron, Dr. Sigifredo Perez, Dr. Alfredo Trevino, Dr. Francisco Leal, Dr. Miguel Najera and Dr. Jose Molina for numerous years of love and support.
