Esthela V. Lopez Obituary It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Esthela Villasenor Lopez. Esthela was born in Ciudad Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, MX on July 17, 1937 and went to be with the Lord peacefully on March 18, 2024 surrounded by loving family in her cherished home of over 50 years in San Antonio, TX. At the age of 13, she earned her degree from a beauty college in her hometown of Monterrey, NL., MX. In Laredo, TX she would meet the love of her life Humberto. They later settled in San Antonio, TX to raise their family. Following in her mother’s footsteps she later became a skilled seamstress while Humberto worked as a long-haul truck driver and diesel mechanic until his passing. Multiple times a year they traveled to Laredo and Monterrey to visit each other’s families. Esthela continued the tradition until a few years back. She supported her children by committing her time to help raise and babysit her grandchildren. She is their loving “Nana” and always showered them with adoration and made each one feel uniquely special. She taught them how to sew, bake cookies, clean, to love music and family. But most of all that they could depend on her. She celebrated all of their birthdays and each of their accomplishments. Her family is a testimony to her Love of God, elegance, graceful spirit and life-long accomplishments. For decades she was an integral part of the St Leonard’s Catholic Church Spanish choir and a Guadalupana. The Lord gifted her with a strong alto voice that resonated above most. She loved to sing and honed her abilities through several years of voice lessons at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center under the tutelage of renowned opera singer, Beatriz Aznar. Their close friendship lasted for many years up until Ms. Aznar’s passing. Esthela is remembered by many for her passion and love for all genres of music. Esthela loved to read which was instilled by example from her father, Vicente Villasenor. After moving to San Antonio, TX, she taught herself to read and write English with an English/Spanish dictionary. She often read books, educational articles, and most of the encyclopedia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Humberto G. Lopez on December 13, 1981, parents, Vicente and Maria Villasenor and siblings, Ramon Villasenor and Virginia Trevino. Esthela is survived by her children: Grace Mendez, Tania Lopez, Humberto Lopez (Sylvia), Hilda Martinez (Jimmy), Rene Lopez (Christine), and Robin Garcia (Robert), sisters: Nancy Villarreal, Gloria Barrera, and brother Vicente Villasenor Pena, grandchildren: Krista Lopez, Shirlene Medina-Kerouac, Nadia Lopez, Joseph Medina, Jason Medina, Roxana Aanonsen, Timothy Lopez, Christine Mendez, Paul Mendez-Ginn, Serina Lopez, Melanie Martinez, Jay Lopez, Jimmy Martinez Jr, Dorian Lopez, Anabelle Mendez, Peter Sifuentes and Macario Escamilla, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Nana’s love will always be remembered and carried in our hearts.
