Esther Gertrude Obst Weise Born: 17 Nov. 1930, Alamo, Texas Died: 27 Aug. 2013, San Antonio, Texas Proceeded in death by Mother Gertrude and father Bruno Obst and daughter Lore Berg, brothers Martin Obst and Herman Obst. Survived by husband of 60 years, August Weise, San Antonio, Texas; daughter Sheryl Weise Lyssy and husband Jim Lyssy of Spring, Texas; Gunnar Berg, widower of Lore Weise Berg of Olathe Kansas, and Gunnar's new wife Cindy Berg; grandchildren Amanda Sparks Boykin and husband Steven Boykin of Lake Jackson, Texas; Kate Marie Lyssy of Golden, Colorado and Margaret Ann Berg of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Great grandchildren Abigail Lily Boykin and Lila Rose Boykin. Siblings Edwin and wife Annie Obst of Alamo Texas; Karl and wife Sandra Obst of Alamo, Texas; Paul and wife Joyce Obst of Alamo, Texas. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Faith was a large part of Esther's life, baptized on 28 Dec. 1930, confirmed on 2 April 1944 both at Faith American Lutheran Church in Weslaco, Texas. Esther was raised in a farming family in Alamo, Texas with many chores and responsibilities. As the only daughter with 5 brothers, she was customarily folded into household duties above and beyond the farming duties. Esther was married to August Weise in a double wedding with August's sister the late Marie-atta and Dixon Riemenschneider on 2 August 1953. Her education consisted of Elementary school in Alamo, high school at Pharr San Juan Alamo and college at Southwest Texas State, Pan American and Texas Lutheran College, completing her Bachelors degree in Education. Esther taught school for 35 years, with stints as she traveled with her husband, missionary school in San Juan, Texas and for 29 years with SAISD primarily at Inez Foster Elementary. Esther was active in at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, San Antonio, Texas; participating with the quilting ministry and former board member of the day care. She also served in the choir and library. Esther was a loving mother and often ran the home as August traveled for his employment. She loved her extended family which included the church and her many cousins, often hosting major holiday events at her home. She traveled extensively in retirement with 2 driving trips to Alaska, various locations in the United States, Canada and to Europe. Esther was always ready to go on a trip. Memorial Services to be conducted on Fri. 30 August 6-8 PM at Mission Park South; funeral on Sat. 31 August 10AM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Interment at Weesatche, Tx on 31 August 3:30 PM.
