Felix Cura Jr., affectionately known to some as “Garras” 83, of Lockhart, TX, passed peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by his family in San Antonio, TX. Felix was born on May 12, 1943, in Lockhart, Texas. When his family relocated to San Antonio, Felix grew up on the city’s West Side. As a young boy, Felix left school during his grade-school years to help his parents as farm workers. Although his formal education was cut short, Felix was a natural at math. He loved fractions and multiplication. In 1966, Felix answered the call to serve his country and proudly joined the United States Army. He served from September 6, 1966, until his honorable discharge on August 17, 1968. He attained the rank of Specialist Four (SP4) and trained as an Auto Mechanic. His last duty assignment was B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry. His service included more than 1 ½ years in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, Felix became a member of the Laborers Local 1095 Union and built a career in construction. He worked on projects throughout San Antonio, including Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Express News and the Alamodome. On June 6, 1976, Felix married the love of his life, Margarita Cura. Together, they built a life centered around their faith, family, laughter, and love. Felix was a devoted father and a tremendously proud grandfather to his nine grandchildren. He found happiness in the simple things in life. He loved listening to music, barbecuing, watching Western and Action movies, and sitting on his porch doing “surveillance.” He loved cruising and hanging at the park to check out the classic cars/trucks. One of his favorite activities was taking our mom on dates. They would go to Dos Juanas for tacos, followed by a trip to McDonald’s for their senior coffee. It was simple, but special- a reflection of the love and companionship they shared. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys; favorite actors were John Wayne and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his favorite Holiday was Christmas. He was a soldier. He was a husband, he was a father, grandpa, brother, and beloved uncle and friend. He was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and will never be forgotten. Felix Cura, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents Felix Cura Sr. and Margarita Cura; Daughter Elizabeth Cura; Sisters Margarita Torres, Clemencia C. Saucedo, and Maria Cura; Brother Andres Cura, Brother in Laws Julian Perez, Juan Saucedo Sr., and Felix Lopez Sr.; Sister-in-Law Minga Cura; Nephew Juan Saucedo Jr. and Great grandnephew Wade Trinidad. Felix Cura Jr is survived by his loving wife, Margarita R Cura; Children Felix Cura (Lareina), Oscar Cura (Maryann) and Melinda C de Hoyos (David); sisters Martina Perez and Julia Lopez; Brothers Dimas Cura (Delia) and Nicholas Cura; Grandchildren Timothy “Matthew” Gomez, Aiden Cura, Oscar Cura Jr., Serenity Cura, Audi Cura, Leira Cura, Renee Cura, Melina Cura and Raven Cura. Pallbearers will be Felix Cura, Oscar Cura, Timothy Gomez, Aiden Cura, David de Hoyos, and Johnny Mann. The family of Felix Cura wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Montemayor, Dr. Gibbs, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and nephew Timothy Matthew Gomez for taking care of grandpa.
