Tributes

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Florence H. Lara went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2022, at the age of 88. She was born on April 2, 1934 in San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Juan Lara; parents, George and Guadalupe Henderson; daughter, Linda Merla; son, Felipe Castañeda; grandson, Phillip Castañeda; sisters, Josephine Young, Lupe Arocha, Mary Helen Gonzales and Virginia Henderson; and brothers, John Henderson and Leroy Henderson. Florence is survived by her daughter, Debra Skoruppa (Ken); grandchildren, Melinda Aguilar (Roland), Jessica Martinez, Christopher Castañeda (Krystal), Weston Skoruppa and Peyton Skoruppa; siblings, Alfred Henderson, Robert Henderson (Victoria), Rose Guajardo and Barbara Torres (Frank), and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Florence greatly enjoyed traveling in her motor home with her husband Juan. They were just a few states short of reaching their goal of visiting every state. One of Florence’s most favorite pastimes was taking trips to Louisiana to indulge herself at the casinos. She always claimed to “break even”. In the early years, when the wheels of the motorhome were not moving, you could find her parked near the piers of Corpus Christi, fishing along side of her sister, Mary Helen. Florence also had a great love for her “Lunch Bunch” group. They grew their friendship while working together at Tesoro Petroleum, where she retired from in the mid 80’s. After selling her house of 50+ years, she found a great family in her new home at Morningside at the Meadows. The staff there was incredible to her. Her transition to The Manor at Morningside brought some very special people into her life during her most difficult days. The family would like to thank all of the staff of Morningside and Crest Hospice for the care, compassion, and love shown to her. A special thank you to Morningside LVN, Jay Calderon, who she felt a special bond and comfort with. To all that have allowed “Momo” to be a part of their lives, you are truly appreciated. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
