Florian Joseph Czaja was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born in Karnes County, Tx on August 25, 1937, to Sigmund and Otylia Czaja. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, son Floyd Czaja, son-in-law Mark Pogue, brothers Peter Czaja, Sigmund Czaja, and sisters Mary Laskowski, Proxy Hay & Eleonor Manning. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 65 years Elissa Czaja, children Sharon Pogue, Julie Roberson & Gary, D’An Czaja; grandchildren Justin Roberson & Faith, Dawn Pogue Olivares & Anthony, Donald Pogue IV, Alan Roberson & Casea Davis, Hope Jacobs; great grandchildren Avery, Allison, Grace, Lana, Tinley, Cindy, Callie, & great granddaughter Roberson due November 2025; Brother Anton Czaja, sisters Ann Leland, Regina Boyson (Gerald) and sister in law Lillian Czaja and Teresa Carpenter & Randy. Florian was called Pokey by his loving family. He started working at age 15 for Mr. Dicken’s furniture store doing various jobs. At age 17, after he got his driver’s license, he started at Ozarka water company doing everything from driving trucks to managing plant operations. He worked there under different water brands for over 45 years, before retiring at age 62. You could always find him with bottled water wherever he went. After retiring, he spent his days volunteering his time at Holy Name Catholic Church in various groups like the Garden Club, Knights of Columbus, and SCOOP program. The family regularly would be seen at parish festivals bidding on all kinds of treasures to take home. He was a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He would help with the Bingo events held at the KC Hall off Rigsby Avenue. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, always rooting for Ford drivers, except for when his grandson Donald was racing his Chevy Monte Carlo at San Antonio Speedway. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30,2025 from 4:00-8:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, with the Rosary starting at 6:00pm. Mass will occur on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 10:00am at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park. A celebratory luncheon will occur after the services at Holy Name Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boysville of San Antonio, American Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
