Florinda Olivo Aguilar passed away peacefully and went to be with the light of our Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. She was born September 22 in San Patricio, Texas, the seventh of eleven children born to Victor and Genoveva Medrano Olivo. She met her beloved husband, Arturo Aguilar, in Mathis, Texas, and they were married on January 31, 1954. Together, they shared a blessed and incredible life, raising eight children, while focusing on community and family. They had a beautiful marriage of 55 years before his sudden death in 2009. Her greatest joys in life were being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she sang in the Spanish Mass choir, and remained active in community events. Florinda had a profound love for singing and dancing; she frequently sang praises to the Lord, filled her home with music, and cherished going out to dances with her husband, Arturo. Exceptionally active and health-conscious, she dedicated herself to daily exercise, healthy eating, and always looking her best. She constantly challenged her children and grandchildren to keep up with her incredible strength and capacity for love. Florinda was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by her parents, Victor and Genoveva Olivo; her husband, Arturo Aguilar; her grandson, Carlos Arturo Aguilar; her sisters: Tomasa Sanchez, Concepcion Cardona, Ofelia Aleman, Consuelo Huerta Martinez, Juanita Leal, and Angelita Ponce; and her brothers: Juan Olivo, Jose Olivo, Jesus Olivo, and Victor Olivo II. She is survived by her children: Abel (Shelley) Aguilar, Fr. Arturo Aguilar, SSC, Jose Aldo (Diana) Aguilar, Adrian Aguilar, Oscar Aguilar (Pablo Guevara), Cindy (Gary) Bonnette, Victor Aguilar, and Antonio (Lisa) Aguilar; her grandchildren: Mia, Anita (Zach Gearheart), Robert (Chesney) Aguilar, Marisa (James) Malik, Cristina (John) Ramos, Juliana Aguilar, Aaron Aguilar-Bonnette, PhD, and Aidan Aguilar; her great-grandchildren: Adele Aguilar, Zylah Ramos, Adrian, Aubree, and Andres Aguilar, and Hannah, Jacob, and Cecilia Malik. She also leaves behind her brothers-in-law: Jesus Aguilar, Eloy Aguilar, and Hector Aguilar; her sister-in-law, Dora Olivo; the Varga family, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and countless friends. The Aguilar family wishes to extend an enormous thank you to Nicole’s Care Home, LLC, - specifically Nicole and Daniel Varga and their daughters – for making Florinda a part of their family and providing such compassionate and loving care in her last years. Her grandchildren will honor her by serving as pallbearers. Her great-grandchildren will lovingly assist with the pallbearers’ boutonnieres and the flowers at her graveside. Florinda – known affectionately as Mama Flo, Flo-Flo, Bird, Priscilla, Momo, and Lita - will always be remembered for being the light and love of the families she kept so close. We will forever remember her welcoming us to the “Ranchito” and waking up to her saying “Let the light of the Lord shine in.” May you continue dancing and singing with your handsome Viejo, Lito; hold your Carlitos tight; rejoice in heaven where they are waiting for you; and continue to watch over us, as we carry your legacy into the next generation.
