Frances Newberry Chassot was "Fran" to those who knew her. Fran's favorite color was red, and second to that was the blue of the sky just as night falls. She was afraid of heights, and also dreamed she might one day learn to fly. She believed the best decision she ever made was to marry Chuck, the love of her life and father of their two children. Fran and Chuck spent 40 years together, until cancer took him from her. She loved her children, who grew up to be independent and stubborn, and she respected that. She adored her nephews as if they were her own sons. She cherished her two grandsons. She texted and called her sisters daily and was grateful for having them in her life as friends and confidantes. She loved her sister-in-law just as she loved her sisters and often remarked on her strength and generosity. She revered her aunts. She sentimentally kept every heartfelt Christmas and birthday card she had ever been sent. Fran deeply believed that in death she would be able to see and hold the many dearly loved friends and family who preceded her. As a Navy wife, Fran lived in 2 countries, 6 different states and more than 12 different homes during her husband's career. She earned her B.S.N. in 1989 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and was dedicated to the vocation of nursing for more than 30 years until her retirement. She was notably talented at sewing, knitting and floral arrangement. She delighted in opportunities to cook homemade meals that nourished family and friends while showcasing Japanese recipes that reflected her heritage. But, across her entire accomplished life, she never once baked an unburnt loaf of bread. F. N. “Fran” Chassot passed away on April 3rd, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 66. She specifically requested that no flowers be sent on her behalf, but instead we each buy flowers for someone we love and display them where they can be fully enjoyed by the living. She requested that we should take a moment to remember her, but avoid focusing on her passing. She wrote in her instructions to her family that life “should be full of the things that make living so wonderful…there is so much to learn, so many things to enjoy, so many tasks to accomplish that remembering the dead should be but a moment’s indulgence in a warm, special memory.” Please, in her honor, take steps today to create those special memories with the ones you love.
