Fred R. Arredondo, age 92, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his two daughters on Wednesday morning, May 17, 2023. He was a loving and wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also beloved by many nephews and nieces. He worked for 45+ years as a barber at Brooks Air Force Base. He met many military officers and enjoyed listening to their career achievements and travels all over the world. Mr. Arredondo even met and gave a haircut to President Lyndon Johnson. He stated that President Johnson was down to earth, easy to talk to and had many acquaintances in Del Rio, Texas, too. Mr. Arredondo enjoyed bowling, dancing, trips to Del Rio, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and summer vacations to Corpus Christi. He enjoyed watching reruns of Lawrence Welk on KLRN and Barney Miller and Johnny Carson on the ANTENNA tv channel. Mr. Arredondo was wise, loving, caring, understanding, responsible and dependable. His work ethic was high and he instilled in his daughters the importance of working your best at all times on your job and treat others with respect and courtesy. He also lovingly dedicated 25 years helping his wife with her weekly dialysis treatments. He loved his wife and daughters deeply and remained loved and respected by his family, relatives, and friends. Mr. Arredondo’s daughters visited him during the week plus every Saturday to enjoy a trip to Walmart for groceries; then a delicious lunch; play dominoes; and coffee and dessert. Sunday mornings another visit by his darlings to drink coffee, talk, and listen to his favorite music. Quality time with his daughters was a top priority and he cherished these moments. Mr. Arredondo is survived by his two daughters, he called them his “darlings” – Eleanor Arredondo and Yvette Arredondo Ytuarte; his two grandsons Joshua Elias Ytuarte and his wife D’Andrea Ytuarte, and Jacob Daniel Ytuarte; one great grandson, Luke Elias Ytuarte; his brother and sister-in-law Arnulfo and Molly Arredondo of Del Rio; sister-in-laws Enedelia “Nena” Arredondo of Del Rio, sister-in-law Carmen S. Rodriguez, Grace and Tranq Martinez; Frank and Mabel Sanchez, and many other relatives, nephews, and nieces. Mr. Arredondo is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Socorro Sanchez Arredondo; son-in-law Candido “Candy” Ytuarte III; his parents Castula and Arnulfo Arredondo, his two brothers Efrain Arredondo and Rene Arredondo; sister-in-laws Leticia Arredondo and Ricardita “Dita” Sanchez Mays., brother-in-laws George Gilbert Mays and Refugio “Cuco” Rodriguez. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice will be appreciated.
