Tributes

Fred W. Flores, Jr., beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 10, 1930, Fred lived a life filled with love, dedication, family, and a passion for the arts. Fred graduated from Breckenridge High School, before continuing his studies at San Antonio College. It was there he met the love of his life, Helen Huff that led to a long marriage of 60 years and 4 daughters. Fred was drafted into the army and served in the Korean War. Fred’s career spanned several industries. He worked alongside his father at Fred Flores Plumbing Company before joining Sears in their Heating and Air Conditioning department. His passion for education led him to teach plumbing at St. Philip’s College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education and later a master’s degree in Vocational Counseling from Southwest Texas State University. After retiring, he remained active in the Alamo Community College District Retirees organization, even serving as its president. He also continued, until just recently, tutoring students that are getting their journeyman plumber’s license. Fred’s passions were many. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also had lifelong passion acting and singing. Early on he became involved in musical community theater. He cohosted a variety show on television on WOAI. His recent hobbies were being a member of “Friends in Harmony”. Fred cherished traveling, with recent trips including a visit to New York to see Hugh Jackman in The Music Man on Broadway and a journey to Ireland to sing with Friends in Harmony. But above all, he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Flores; parents, Fred W. Flores, Sr., and Juanita Flores; his brother, Edward Flores; and his sisters, Viola Miranda and Rita Flores. He is survived by his sister, Diane Halim; his four daughters, Brenda Meibos, Barbara Flores, Beverly Wilkinson, and Becky Jones; along with 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren A celebration of his life will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapel Cherry Ridge, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr, San Antonio, Texas 78230 on March 19, 2025 at 1:00pm with a graveside military burial at Fort Sam Houston immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society or Salvation Army in his honor.
