Reflection of Life Gabriel Contreras was born on November 17, 1973 in Weslaco, Texas and from that moment on, he personified the commandment to honor one’s father and mother. Gabriel and his father, Jesus, were the strongest duo at the gym for their daily weightlifting sessions. His mother, Mercedes, found her best confidant as they would go on their morning drives. Above all, Gabriel made sure they never traveled alone and served as his parents’ protector and provider. The love he had for his parents was also given to each of his siblings. Gabriel was one of the original Three Amigos along with his older siblings, Jess and Laura. As the family grew, he made sure each new Contreras felt his love and formed a special bond with each one. He found a lifelong sidekick in his sister Soledad, and made sure his baby brother, Angel, felt supported in all things. Gabriel made sure his dad’s Princesa, Sarita, had every wish granted, and for his baby sister, Mercedes, he gave his Monkey someone to always hang on to and love. As the family began to add new members, he welcomed spouses like siblings, nieces and nephews had an extra parent that spoiled them with love and gifts, and extended family had the best party guest when Gabriel was visiting. If Gabriel’s family wasn’t big enough, he added friends that became his family as well. From fishing trips to poker tournaments, he made sure every moment spent with a friend was a moment to remember. The way he cared for his friends was also extended to their families, adding to each one a new member to love. Regardless of how or when someone entered Gabriel’s life, one thing was always for certain: Once you entered his life, you were Gabriel’s and he made sure you always felt loved. Gabriel’s smile brought peace, his laughter created unforgettable memories, and his caring demeanor healed heavy hearts. On July 9, 2020, Gabriel’s spirit was called to bring laughter and joy with the angels. As well as a multitude of Friends that added to his Family. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Manuel & Natalia Contreras, and Benito & Soledad Perez.
