Gayle V. (Richey) Gouge passed away on October 12, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on December 12, 1952 in Independence, Missouri to Clarence Eugene Richey and Margie Louise Weir. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Katy Gouge and Rachel Barbour (Neil); sons, Chris Gouge and Michael Gouge (Whitney); brothers, Michael Richey and Marc Richey (Kristie); grandchildren, Hunter, Alison and Ulysses Gouge, Margaret and Frederick Barbour. Gayle, Mommy, Grandma, whatever she was called, she was a joy to all around her. She had a laugh to make others laugh and always took care of others. She was born in Missouri, but, as she put it, got to Texas as fast as she could. Gayle was a Baptist, after having accepted Jesus at a young age. She delighted in teaching 5 year olds about Jesus’ love in Sunday School. She was a First Class Girl Scout, which then was the highest possible, equal to Eagle Scout. She earned a full scholarship to Texas Woman's University. She met her husband, Steve, in October of her first year in college. They were married the next August and she transferred to Texas A&M to be with him. She received a BA in Psychology from Texas A&M in 1975, graduating 5 months pregnant with her first son, Chris. Together, Gayle and Steve had 4 children and traveled the world with the Army. Gayle was a devoted wife to her husband Steve who had a demanding job as a doctor, first in the Army and then later in private practice. From the moment Chris was born, she was completely focused on her children and later her grandchildren. She was the ultimate mom. Despite her demanding job as wife and mother, Gayle continued her education through her life. She studied math, engineering, computer science, and Latin at different colleges through the years. She was an accomplished seamstress. She loved to paint, following in her mom’s footsteps. She loved Paris. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Steve and Gayle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 5th of this year. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Graveside Service will be on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 9:30am at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 4:00pm at Shearer Hills Baptist Church, 12615 San Pedro Ave, in San Antonio.
