George L. (Roy) Wight, Jr. was born on October 27, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, and raised by his mother and grandmother. He went to his eternal rest on March 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, to meet his Heavenly Father and earthly father for the first time at the age of 90. Roy was known for his big heart and witty sense of humor. He was the epitome of the saying, “I’m not here for a long time, but I’m here for a good time.” Roy was a proud graduate of the Peacock Military Academy and went on to become a member of the Bexar County Sheriffs Mounted Posse. He was a lover of hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors. He enjoyed traveling to Rockport, Texas, with his family and was often found with a cold beer in hand watching the sunset. He was a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition for 57 years and was honored with the status of Director Emeritus. He served on several committees, including his beloved Calf Scramble Committee. Roy was also a lifetime member of the Mesquite Trail Drivers where he spent many happy years alongside family and friends. He retired from HALO Distributing (Miller Beer) after many years of service in Special Events. He and his wife, Alice, owned Dancer the Hatter, and San Antonio Western Town, where he custom made western hats for many prominent people. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Alice Padalecki Wight, son Roy Wight III and wife Lisa, daughter Cindy and husband Mike Klein; 6 grandchildren, Casey Hornsby and husband Blake Hornsby, Ryan Wight and wife Mandy Wight, Lane Klein, Travis Wight, Kendall Klein and Jordan Wight; 5 great grandchildren, Jordan, Hudson, Tegan, Emery, Berkley; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and a mountain of friends. Roy Wight was a party looking for a place to happen. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 SE Military Drive, San Antonio, TX. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022, at 11:45 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest Drive, San Antonio, TX, followed by Mass at 12:10 p.m. Interment services to follow at Annunciation Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, 14011 FM 1346, St. Hedwig, TX. Reception will follow at the church. Pallbearers: Ryan Wight, Lane Klein, Travis Wight, Blake Hornsby, Jeff Berger and James Cosper. Honorary Pallbearer: Bill White Memorials may be made to the SALE Calf Scramble Committee or Schreiners Hospital for Children.
