With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gilbert Garcia Jr., who departed this life on February 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Gilbert was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Gilbert honorably served two tours in Vietnam, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his country. After his military service, he continued his commitment to excellence as a U.S. Postal Service Manager until his retirement. A man of deep faith, Gilbert was also an active member of the St. Luke Catholic Church Knights of Columbus council 10240 having served as a 3-year trustee and Inside Guard. He was also a 4th-degree Sir Knight in Assembly 3759. He also served as Vice President of the St.Luke Guadalupanos for four years. Born on May 3, 1947, in Houston, Texas, Gilbert lived a life of love, faith, and service. His kindness, strength, and generosity touched everyone who knew him, leaving a lasting impact on family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing his path. Gilbert was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for fishing, spending countless hours by the water on his boat named “Fishinfureva”, enjoying the peace it brought him. He was a devoted San Antonio Spurs fan, rarely missing a game and always cheering for his team. However, his greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eva Garcia, building a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife, Eva Garcia; his daughter, Stephanie Ann Garcia, and son-in-law, Julian Patterson Garza III; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Garcia; his grandchildren, Alexander Garcia (wife, Annie Garcia), Priscilla Garcia, Alyssa Berain, and Samantha Berain; and his great-grandchildren, Manuel Garcia, Addie Garcia, Aliyah Edwards, Mila Castañeda, Aubrey Garcia, Carter Ruiz, and Kailani Ruiz. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings, extended family, and many dear friends. Gilbert is now reunited in eternal rest with his son, Gilbert Nathan Garcia, and his parents, Gilbert Sr. and Adela Garcia. Services & Memorial A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou, with the following schedule: Visitation & Viewing – 9:00 A.M. Rosary – 9:30 A.M. Funeral Mass – 10:00 A.M. A reception will immediately follow at the St. Luke Community Center. The family welcomes all who wish to join in remembering and honoring Gilbert’s life. Military Honors & Burial A Graveside Service with Military Honors will on held Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
