Gladys Josephine Lichnovsky Collins March 5, 1923 – July 12, 2015 Gladys Josephine Lichnovsky Collins, 92, entered into eternal peace and into the hands of our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 12, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. Her loving devotion to her family and her firm belief in God was ever present and ultimately gave her peace in her passing. Gladys was born March 5, 1923, in Weimar, Texas, the second daughter of Antonia Kofron Lichnovsky and William Lichnovsky of Weimar. She participated in cheerleading, tennis, and was a beauty queen at Weimar High School. Gladys was an honor student at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas where she studied interior design and art. When WWII began, she went to work as a dental assistant at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She met a handsome Army Private, Jim Collins, from Austin, Texas and they married on August 24, 1945. They resided in Austin before moving to Donna, Texas where they lived for 16 years. They relocated to San Antonio in 1963 where they remained. Gladys worked as a substitute teacher and medical insurance specialist. She was an accomplished seamstress, pianist, and excellent cook. She loved her BlueBell ice cream and watching the Spurs play. She was involved in Church activities, and served as a judge at local elections for many years. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, who passed away March 5, 2009 her birthday and sister, Isabel, who passed away December 5, 2009 Huntsville, Alabama. She is survived by her elder sister, Emma Slavik of Fort Worth, her younger brother, William, Jr. of San Antonio; three daughters, Anne Walton Martin of San Antonio, Barbara Letitia Lampkin and husband Mike of San Antonio, and Elizabeth "Betty" Stewart and husband Pete of Houston; eight grandchildren, Dana Loper and husband Greg, Julia Conner and husband Scott, Audrey Parks and husband Charlie, Ashley Lampkin, Alyssa Lampkin, Austin Lampkin and wife Kristi, Kelly Stewart and husband Daniel DJ, Emily Stewart; eleven great grandchildren, Zachary and Andrew Loper, Victoria, Caleb, Nicholas, Rebecca, Olivia and Charlie Conner, Abygail Panther, Ayden Parks, and Ella Stewart Carnley, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral and burial service will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 1:00PM in the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel at Mission Burial Park North 20900 West IH10. Please use the Dominion Drive exit.
