Gloria Yamin Benson Gloria Yamin Benson, born July 10, 1927, went to sleep with the angels on January 13, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Benson was a native and lifetime resident of San Antonio, Texas. Survivors are daughters, Sharon Benson and Patricia Benson; nephew, Philip Yamin, whom she raised as her son; brother, George Yamin; grandchildren Monique Yamin Adams Kevin, Tiffini Yamin, Nicole Yamin and Tanya Yamin Raba Christopher; ten very special great-grandchildren, Michele Nicole and Michael Yamin, Derek, Luke and Reese Adams, Jude, Rome, Dante and Talia Raba, Nicolas Yamin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lynn C. Benson; parents Asma and Kaisar Yamin; two sisters, Effie Dick, Mary Yamin Bailey; six brothers, Fred, Ernest, Sam, Joe, Philip, Louis Yamin and one nephew Richard Dick. Gloria was the tenth child and baby of the family. As a young girl she went to New York but soon returned to San Antonio to care for her mother. She met her future husband, Lynn, while working at her brothers cleaners at Lackland Air Force Base. They married February 13, 1949. She worked tirelessly for her church, St. George Maronite Catholic, the same one her father co-founded. Following the death of her mother, Gloria became the matriarch of the family. Everyone turned to Aunt Gloria for their needs and she was always there. She remained a faithful member of St. George throughout her life, serving in various capacities in the Ladies Altar Society. She was a Silver Massabki Medal Recipient, an honor bestowed by the National Apostolate of Maronites in recognition for outstanding service to her parish. She also served as President, Secretary, and perpetual Sergeant-at-Arms of The Bey Aleph Sorority. The family will welcome visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 followed by recitation of the holy rosary at St. George. Funeral Mass will be celebrated January 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Ghassan Mattar, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park North. Pallbearers are Kevin Adams, Danny Dick, Brad Eberle, Jason Fletcher, Patrick Karam, Christopher Raba, Joshua Yamin, and Neil Yamin. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews Alex Dick, Jr., Sam Dick, Alex Yamin, Gregory Yamin, James Yamin, Steve Yamin, Calvin Yamin, and cousin Fred Korge.
