Gloria Zertuche Chairez, age of 90, of San Antonio, was called to her forever home by her Heavenly Father on March 28, 2024. She was born to Rito Zertuche and Carolina Carrillo on November 8, 1933. Shortly after her birth, her father Rito passed away at the age of 22. A few years later, her grandmother, Dorothea Salinas Carrillo helped raise her and her older brother Bernie in Beeville, Texas. At the age of 12, her grandmother passed away and then she moved back to San Antonio with her mother and then stepdad, and all her other younger brothers and sisters. She was able and glad to help her next youngest sister, Carrie, care for all the children. Sometime later, she was able to get her GED and a beautician’s license. In her late 20’s, she met her love of her life, Fernando, she said he was the most caring man she ever met. On July 8, 1961, they married and did not waste any time having children. She was the most devoted, committed, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Later in life, she became a born again Christian. Her favorite chapter in the Bible that she knew from memory was Psalm 23. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, crosswords, puzzles, game shows and watching the Spurs play. She enjoyed cooking, she was a great cook, one of everyone’s favorite dishes was her corn bread dressing. But what she enjoyed most was being around her family and extended family. We will always cherish her love and memories and carry part of her in our hearts. Gloria was preceding in death by her parents, her husband Fernando M. Chairez and her siblings, Sara Mata, Arturo Martinez, Hector Martinez, and Bernard Zertuche. She is survived by her loving family daughter, Diane Gonzales; sons Philip Chairez (Debbie), James Andrew Chairez, and Fernando Chairez III (Dina); sisters Carrie Chairez (Leonard), Helen Hernandez (Joe) Paula De La Pena (Jesse) Dorothy Estrada (Eddie), Dominga Casarez, and Minerva Martinez (Jesse); brother Joe Martinez; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 1:00pm, located at 1700 S.E. Military Dr. San Antonio, TX 78214. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm with Pastor Sam Sandoval officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers: Joe Constante, Pete Chairez, James Andrew Chairez, James Chairez, Jr., Fernando Chairez III and Andrew Chairez. Honorary Pallbearers: Philip Chairez, Jonathan Gonzales and Ivan Hernandez.
