Tributes

Grace was called home by our Lord on Friday, January 3, 2020 after living a long 100+ year life, most of it in her favorite city, San Antonio. She and her parents lived in Tampico, Mexico for many years before moving to San Antonio for her schooling. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended UT. During WWII, she married Lt. John Parshall. After the war, they lived in Wisconsin and Alabama and then returned to San Antonio to raise their family. She had a passion for travel, from road trips with her parents as a child, to extended summer road trips with her husband, children and later grandchildren. She coordinated overnight stays with friends and relatives all over the country. Later she enjoyed overseas trips with husband John and friends. She was an outgoing, fun loving, people person who loved to entertain at church and home. She found joy cooking for U.S. and foreign soldiers from Lackland AFB at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Christmas Eve dinner with extended family was a fun time for everyone. Her Christmas tree cookies were legendary. Many friends and relatives from around the country would come to town for the best guided tour of her beloved San Antonio. Church and volunteer activities were a big part of her life. Combining her love of travel, she and John traveled twice to Guatemala to help missionaries rebuild after earthquakes. She was a Bluebird at Methodist Hospital, made and sold cascarones at Fiesta and greeted NCAA tournament players at the airport. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed. Until we meet again Momma! She is preceded in death by her husband, John, parents Ruth and Gordon, and great-grandson Cullen. She is survived by her son John Jr. and fiancé Paula, daughter Rhonda, grandchildren Kristen and Brian and his wife Ning, great-grandchildren Eva, Ella and Martin. We are deeply grateful for the loving care provided by Candy, Lesvia and Graciela from Altus Hospice, as well as Mary and Dan during her stays at Brookdale Lincoln Heights. The Service will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Wilson Chapel at First Baptist Church San Antonio followed by a Reception in the Church’s Unity Hall. Interment will then follow at Mission Burial Park Dominion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Grace’s memory to the TV Ministry at First Baptist Church San Antonio or the charity of your choice.
