Grace Ruth Evans Wahne left the struggles of this life on May 22, 2006. She was born August 11' 1926 to Roy C. and Sophie Jaeschke Evans. Born and raised in southern Bexar County, Grace attended school with her siblings at Buena Vista, the Tablita Schoolhouse and completed her formal education, graduating from Elmendorf High School. It was there that she met and eventually fell in love with Robert Wahne. While in school, she began her love of sports and Robert had no choice but to sit with her and watch her team, the Braves, play. Grace & Robert were married in October 1949 in Elmendorf, and it was there they raised their 3 children. She began her career with Bell Telephone Company as an operator, and this was the first of her many job titles during her more than 30 years with the company. Grace was never one to waste time, and while watching television would tie her fingers in knots while crocheting or quilting. Many knew of her crocheted pieces, and the time she entered one of her pieces in competition, won the statewide title. She also enjoyed ceramics, and with the help of family and friends, made and donated the Nativity set to St. Anthony's Church, where it is still used during the Christmas season. For over 30 years, Grace "ran" the kitchen for the St. Anthony's Festival, gathering family and friends to volunteer for the annual church fundraiser. She enjoyed family get togethers, visiting with friends and spoiling her grandchildren. She passed along her love of sports and dancing to her children and her grandchildren. Grace was a member and past president of the St. Anthony Altar Society and a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Betty Ruth Wahne, and brother Roy Evans. She is survived by her husband, Robert Wahne, daughters Joan &Bob Saucedo, Marilyn & Tony Magaro, son, Robert Wahne Jr.; sisters Elizabeth Braune, Dorothy Wahne, and Marion & Felix Duelm; grandchildren Anthony & Kristi Magaro, Lindsay Magaro, Megan Saucedo, Jenna Saucedo, Bridget Wahne and Mary Wahne; great-granddaughter, Madison Rose Magaro; and many nieces and nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank those who made her last months in this life comfortable: her friends who constantly checked up on her, the Doctors and nursing staff at the Methodist Metropolitan, the Chandler Estate, and Serenity Home Healthcare.
