Grant Robert Tauch passed away on March 22, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on October 7, 1926 in San Antonio, to Werner Tauch and Ruth Ann Stengel Tauch and step-mother Grace Aardy Tauch. Mr. Tauch was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Ruth Tauch; and son, Barry Tauch. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jo Anne Harrison Tauch; son, Dan Tauch; step-son, Jim Lemasters (Cindy); brother, Carl Tauch (June); grandchildren, Melissa Lamberts (Steve), Gary Marburger (Jessica), Jaron Tauch and Emily Tauch; great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Alexis and Holland Lamberts. “Bob” was born on October 7th, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. His immediate parents were Ruth Ann Stengel and Werner Tauch. Ruth Ann passed away early in their marriage due to an ongoing battle with tuberculosis. Werner then met Grace Aardy and their relationship and marriage became a solid foundation for Bob's early years and throughout adulthood. The Tauch home on View drive was a happy and always active address for holiday celebrations, family gatherings and reunions. This home pulled the family together. Bob would love to share his father’s story of purchasing this house in 1932 for 12,000 dollars. The home boasted a grand view of downtown San Antonio and anointed fine details of Spanish architecture and detailed craftsmanship. Bob loved this house. His memories of Grace, Werner, Carl, and his sister Waldine and others were a never ending joy to share. Bob—the Frito Man Bob was born at 1416 Roosevelt St., just south of San Antonio, where homes were all wood clad and craftsman designed. During the latter period of World War 2, Bob proudly served his country by working in the Armory building situated on the River Walk, a peaceful stroll from historic San Antonio. But just a couple of addresses away, Bob found his next venture working for Frito Lay, an iconic company that started manufacturing corn chips just a short walk away from his home. Bob drove a route truck for Frito Lay for thirty years. He loved the work and the routes were to stores and restaurants he could point out as we drove around town. The Deacon Bob’s passion and unwavering commitment to his faith and to serve God were always the light, his light. His quiet times, his quiet demeanor were never questioned as his spirit, his life’s testimony were to serve something better, more important and pure. We all strive to carve out a purpose in life, why we’re here, questions of failures and struggles of success. Bob never questioned his purpose. He knew…..far before anyone could construct questions of his faith, Bob smiled as if he knew something no one else could. A Foster Parent, Bob married Joanne Harrison. Their passion was embraced in their mutual love for serving a purpose, a larger part of life, a part where God guided them both into serving the Lord. They took in and contracted children to stay in their home, taking the duress away from their lives and giving them a comforting home to begin a new life. Always a servant to his savior and God, Grant Robert Tauch will always be remembered as a loving and committed man to all, to his family, to his work, and his finest hour is now, to his faith….
