Gregoria C. Almaraz entered the presence of Jesus Christ on March 25, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on March 24, 1931 in Pony, Texas to Santos and Francisca (Alejandro) Cantu. She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, George Almaraz; daughter, Irene Almaraz; son, Richard Almaraz; sister, Carolina Rodriguez; brothers, Raynaldo and Arnulfo Cantu; grandson, Santiago G. Tovar. Gregoria is survived by her children, Ernestina Cantu-Ortiz (Guadalupe Lopez-Ortiz), Yolanda Ramirez (Juan), Thelma Tovar (Santiago), Joann Davis (Jeremy), Johnny Joe Cantu (Rebecca), and Arnulfo Cantu (Alexis); sister, Francis Jacobo; grandchildren, Jesse Rendon Jr, Stephen Rendon, Andre Ortiz, Jonathan D. Ramirez, Joshua Richard Ramirez, Alejandro S. Tovar, Victoria Tovar, Grace Davis Dye, Abigail Davis, Lily Davis, Johnny Ray Cantu, Sara Cantu, Crystal Cantu, Alijah Cantu, Aliyah Cantu, and Alicia Cantu; great-grandchildren, Nariyah Rendon, Jaythen Ortiz, Elijah Ortiz, Matthew Ortiz, Stephen Rendon, Jr., Isaiah Ortiz, Athena Valdez, Alanna Tovar, Aletheia Valdez, Luke Dye, Johnny Jordan Cantu, Amaira Cantu, and Asher Quintana; other loving family members and friends. Gregoria, or Maggie, as family and friends called her, was a dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was a woman of many talents. Maggie was a natural with a sewing machine, yarn, and everything crafty. She used her love for crafting to bless others with beautiful pieces and she eagerly passed on those skills to her children and grandchildren. Maggie enjoyed thrift stores and flea markets and loved finding practical goods or fun little trinkets. One of Maggie’s favorite past times was tending to her plants. She would proudly show off her colorful flowers and garden décor, often surrounded by ceramic frogs. Maggie enjoyed listening to conjunto music with her sisters that would take them back to the days of their youth and always led to fun, long and lively conversations. She also enjoyed hymns on her radio from a Spanish Christian station that encouraged her and drew her closer to her Savior Jesus Christ. Maggie wanted good for her family and prayed for them fervently. She was always willing to go the extra mile without a word of complaint. She was quick to forgive and quick to love. Her family will miss her dearly and their lives will be altered by her departure, but she has gained the presence of the Lord and is seeing Him face to face. Hallelujah what a Savior! Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A chapel service will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
