Gricelda Lopez, entered into eternal rest – Tuesday, July 14 at the age of 46 due to COVID-19 complications. Born on October 22, 1973 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to parents Blanca Lydia Lopez and Simon Lopez and she immigrated to Laredo, Texas as a teenager, later moving to San Antonio as an adult where she worked and grew her family. Blessed with a big heart and hardworking spirit, she devoted all of her energy into her family, friendships, and work. As a longtime Walmart associate, she established a reputation for reliability, leadership, and for a know-how on figuring things out. She took pride in her work and cherished the friendships she built there that transcended the workplace – she was incredibly blessed by her Walmart family. Gricelda’s life is a testament to the spirit of hard work, she always dreamed of owning her own home and having a daughter. God blessed her with both. Gricelda improved the lives of everyone she loved, befriended, and cared for. She was generous in all things; she could have nothing and still give more. She often gave more than was ever given to her; her heart was just so good. She was without envy, without greed, without judgement, without hate, without meanness. She was deeply empathetic, she cried easily for things that were sad or beautiful. Her laugh was loud and full and could be heard over anyone else's. She cared so deeply for others. There was nothing she would not do to help those she loved. There is a little less laughter and joy in the world with Gricelda gone. Tragically, it was COVID-19 that finally closed the book on her life. Nothing about Gricelda’s death was “natural”. There is nothing natural about a death that could have been prevented. There is nothing natural about the death of a reasonably healthy woman. She did not have diabetes, high blood pressure, or any other adverse health factors commonly used to explain the particular vulnerabilities of those who die of COVID-19. She contracted this illness in spite of her best efforts to observe all precautions to keep herself and family safe. We are only safe so long as we all remain consistent and considerate of others and their health. To honor Gricelda’s memory, commit to loving and protecting yourself, your family, all your loved ones while they’re here – continue to save lives by staying at home and wearing a mask even when you are with family or friends. Gricelda, we all miss you, and we love you dearly. You will be lovingly remembered by each of us, including your most important legacy and gift to us all – your daughter Alexandra. Thank you for sharing your life with us and for giving so freely of your love and kindness to everyone who experienced the blessing of knowing you. She is survived by her sisters (Gladys and Marlene Lopez) and brothers (Daniel Lopez, Simeon Lopez, and Juan Lopez); her husband and daughter (Joe and Alexandra Estrada) and also surviving her are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and lifelong friends. In accordance with CDC safety precautions, we ask that you wear a mask at all times, refrain from touching your mouth and nose, and practice social distancing. There will be limited seating for services. For everyone’s safety, instead of hugs and handshakes amongst one another we kindly ask that you please honor the family from a distance.
