Harvey Frank Cunov, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on February 27, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on November 17, 1935, in Lexington, Kentucky, Harvey attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from Texas Military Institute. He was a star athlete and played multiple sports, including baseball, basketball, and football. He married Eileen Antonette Ploch on August 31, 1957. They had a beautiful, 68-year marriage full of love and laughter. They were members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and even when he could no longer drive himself there, Harvey still made it a point to continue their tradition of attending Mass and then leaving a big tip after breakfast at Denny’s. Harvey and Eileen especially enjoyed time together in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, where they hosted friends and family to relax, go to the lake, play golf, and—most importantly—spend time with each other. He earned a reputation among his grandchildren for “stacking the deck” during their favorite card game, Crazy Eights, but he made up for it by buying them candy at the local icehouse. From 1956 to 1960, Harvey proudly served his country as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Air Force. His time in the armed forces inspired a lifelong patriotism—displayed not only in the stars and stripes that adorned everything from his car to his tennis shoes, but also in his actions: He brought desserts to the VA hospital, invited military members to Thanksgiving, and couldn’t resist paying for uniformed servicemembers’ meals and gas station snacks. He worked hard in the automobile industry to provide for his family. He began his career as a salesman and went on to found Vonuc Motors, which he ran with his son Kurt for many years. Harvey decorated his home with as many photos as he could fit on the wall: of his beautiful wife, of children and grandchildren, of golf buddies and family friends, and of his two chance encounters with George W. Bush. Though he could crack plenty of jokes, he also deeply loved both those he knew and didn’t know. He noticed the overlooked, provided for those who had less, and cheered for the underdogs. He will be remembered for his tender, generous heart and willingness to give, no matter the cost. Preceded in death by infant daughter Catherine Ann Cunov, parents Mary Kathryn Amsden Cunov and Harvey Frank Cunov, Sr., and sister Peggy (Lamar) Zolninger. Survived by his first, only, and greatest love Eileen Ploch Cunov; children Harvey Frank (Lisa) Cunov, III, Kurt Anton (Lisa) Cunov, Kellie Eileen (David) Kiolbassa, and Kyle David (Denise) Cunov; grandchildren Samantha (Mic) Bellabarba, Colton (Louisa) Cunov, Remington Cunov, Cody Cunov, Conor (Marybeth) Cunov, Courtney Eileen (Jp) Kiolbassa-Talty, Kathryn (Josh) Killeen, Emily (Travis) Sthele, Chad Cunov, Cole Cunov (Arrington Trcka), and Cade Cunov; and great-grandchildren Livia, Benjamin, Frances Eileen, Daphne, Colette, Baby Bellabarba, and Baby Sthele. On Monday, March 9, 2026, the Rosary will begin at 5:00 P.M. followed by family remembrances. The family will then receive friends until 8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Dominion, 20900 IH 10 West. The Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Rd, with a Celebration of Life and Reception immediately following. On Thursday, March 12, a Procession will depart the Funeral Home Chapel at 8:30 A.M. to the Interment with Military Honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery - Shelter 3, located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages you to “pay it forward” by buying a meal for someone in uniform and leaving a hefty tip at your favorite restaurant.
