Hazel Joy HectorMinica Maynard, born on January 4, 1932 in Lytle, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a multi-talented singer, songwriter and musician who began her 30 year Country Music career locally as a member of Local 23. Hazel Joy won Champion Cowgirl Singer in the late 1950s, playing Las Vegas, San Francisco and the Nevada Circuit with several female bands, as well as touring Japan and Taiwan, also performing for the USO, hospitals and many charitable events. She lit up the stage and any room with her energy, love and zest for life. Gifted in all of the arts, she won an art scholarship from the Norman Rockwell studio in the early 50s. Hazel Joy was an innovative seamstress, master tailor, floral designer, avid gardener and beautician, she could do it all. But her greatest gift was her love for her large family who will miss her humor, her courage, her strength and her beauty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Mae Davis and John Hector; and her son, Richard Minica. Hazel Joy is survived by her loving husband, Jack Maynard; daughters, Kathleen Minica Savage and husband, Glenn of East Tennessee, Shirley Wachsmuth and husband, John of Arlington, Texas, Katherine Kay and husband, David of San Antonio, Texas and Lori Trejo and husband Fred of San Antonio, Texas; sons, William Minica and wife, Loretta of Pleasanton, Texas, Jimmie Minica and wife, Peggy of San Antonio, Texas, Charles Minica and wife, Carrie of Spring Branch, Texas and Houston Maynard of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Alice Helmick of Floresville, Texas, Shirley Balencia of Devine, Texas and Betty Jane of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Melvin Hector and wife, Vonnie of Devine, Texas and Patrick Campbell and wife, Linda of Tomball, Texas; she is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. SERVICES A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 3:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or your local Humane Society.
