Hector Castillo, age 89 of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 9, 2026. He was born on October 7, 1936 in Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Captain Trinidad Castillo; his mother, Anna Isabel Hinojosa de Castillo; and his brother, Thomas Hinojosa. He is survived by his wife, Marissa Castillo; his daughter, Miriam Solis, and her husband, Phillip; his son, Jaime "Jimmy" Castillo, and his wife, Robbie; his sister, Maria Marta Hinojosa; his grandchildren, Brianna Kircher (Jared), Ariel Solis-Lewis (Andrew), Nathaniel Solis (Erin), Charis Castillo, Zefran Castillo, and Elisha Castillo; and his great-grandchildren, Andrew Kircher, Liliana Kircher, Ryan Kircher, Theodore Lewis, and Eleonora Lewis. Hector studied to become a doctor in Mexico, but life had other plans. At the age of 20, he immigrated to the United States. Before he left, he told Marissa to give him three years to get on his feet, and he would return to marry her — a promise he kept, and the beginning of a lifelong partnership of 66 years. Through hard work and determination, Hector built a life for himself and his family that embodied the American dream. He ran his own TV repair shop for 21 years on Basse Rd. before going on to work as a TV technician for Montgomery Ward, where he was at one point ranked the number one technician in all of Texas. He loved spending time with his great-grandson teaching him how to repair electronics. Hector was a devoted husband to Marissa and a loving father who cherished his family above all else. He was a devout Christian and faithful member of Concordia Lutheran Church. His faith was a guiding presence throughout his life. Hector had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, with bass fishing holding a special place in his heart. He treasured taking his son, Jaime, along on his fishing trips, passing down memories that lasted a lifetime. He loved spending time with Miriam teaching her baseball skills. He was also known for hosting wonderful cookouts, famous among family for his fried fish, shrimp patties, baked potatoes, and corn. Hector was always eager to see and experience new places. He and his family traveled extensively throughout Mexico. He traveled with Marissa throughout the United States and Europe making lifelong memories with her. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Molly for her patience, support, and devoted care. The family also extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Vistas Healthcare for the compassionate care and kindness they provided. Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 am. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am at Concordia Lutheran Church with a reception afterwards. Concordia is located at 16801 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, TX. A funeral procession will follow to Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH-10 W., San Antonio, TX.
