Tributes

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, Helen Frances Huff Flores, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 31, 1932 to Hugh Franklin Huff and Ethel Marion Gray. She attended schools in San Antonio. She was a member of the drill team/pep squad at Harlandale High School and graduated at the age of 16. She then enrolled at Baptist Memorial Nursing School and took courses at San Antonio College where she met the love of her life, Fred W. Flores, Jr. They were married December 21, 1951. Shortly after, Fred was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. Helen followed him to Panama where their first daughter of four was born. Upon their return to San Antonio, she reenrolled in nursing school and became a RN. She enjoyed many years as a nurse in various positions. In later years she went to back to school at the University of Texas at San Antonio to become a teacher like her husband so they could travel during the summers. They traveled all over the US And Europe, often taking grandkids with them. All during this time, she was very active in the Republican Party. She was also a member of and served as president of The Shakespeare Club. She was also an advocate for animals giving her time and money to worthy causes such as the SPCA. Family was very important to her and organized each year the Huff Family reunion, held the first Sunday in June.In more recent years, she moved to The Woodlands, Texas where she passed away surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred W. Flores, Jr. of San Antonio and The Woodlands. Four daughters: Brenda Meibos John of Utah, Barbara Flores of San Antonio, Beverly Wilkinson Paul of The Woodlands, and Rebekah Jones Malcolm of Livingston. She had 12 grandchildren: Jared, Jacob, Joshua, Jordon, Joseph, Katy, Natalie, Mitchell, Amanda, Taylor, Chanel, and Corbin and eight great grandchildren with another one soon to arrive. She also is survived by her sister, Linda Nedbal Richard of California, numerous cousins and friends. And her other companion Rubio, her cat for 18 years.
