Sue Jones Helen H. Jones, always known as "Sue" to friends and family, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away in San Antonio on September 1, 2009 at the age of 83. Sue was born on October 29, 1925 in the Panama Canal Zone. She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel Henck and George Herman, her sister, Verona Herman Green, her brother, George Herman Jr. and by her son, Jack Timothy Jones. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack G. Jones, her daughters, Cynthia Jones Miller and Teresa Jones Avini and her son in law Massood Avini. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Robert Grey Miller, Emily Morgan Miller, Ayesheh Avini, Majeed Timothy Avini and Mitrah Elizabeth Avini. Sue grew up in the Canal Zone where her father was Chief of the Police Department. She graduated from Christobal High School in 1943 and worked for the U.S. Army Air Corps in Panama for one year during World War II. After attending Junior College in the Canal Zone, she attended The University of Texas in Austin, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. It was in Austin, at The University of Texas, where she would meet Jack Jones, the man who would become her husband. Sue was a devoted and working mother most of her life. She began working for the Texas State Legislature and went on to work for USAA in San Antonio. After her three children were of school age, she had a long and rewarding career with the Texas Department of Human Services, where she was able to share her immense capacity for love and compassion for others. Services A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, September 4, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the National Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society in her memory.
